Title: Sorry Guys
Post by: ShadowWolf_IH on April 14, 2005, 10:44:43 pm
I don't feel like posting this in each mod that i am involved with, so here it is.  today at work there was an unfortunate mishap.  An electric stove that i was testing cut loose.  one of the burners exploded, my face was directly above it.  I got shrapnel from the fully heated burner in my eyes, but luckily i had closed them before the heated gases that would have blinded me hit.  Reading this while i write it is quite painful, even with the pain pills and the dark shades on.    So i apologize for the fact that i will be out of commission for the most for a bit...as yet undetermined amount of time.

The eyes will heal, but the doc says that my right eye looks like it was hit with a shotgun blast, there are a ton of abrasions and burns to the cornea, and a bad one on my left eye, with some more of the smaller ones.

The only thing that i can do before i go out of commission totally is to upload the voices for TBP.  I'll get that done in the morning, but right now the drugs have kicked in, and i am going to be heading for bed soon.

Wow, sorry to hear that man, it sounds pretty major. Get well soon.

...you didn't happen to get any supernatural powers, did you? Like levitating objects of walking through walls? Cause in the comics, whenever someone has an accident like this....

Ouch. That's pretty much all I can say.

Wish you a speedy recovery though - remember, bedtime/healing time > internet or anything else.

From what I hear, if it's a cornea burn, you shouldn't even be using your eyes.  If you can, get a sleeping eye cover and use it when you aren't doing anything.

Anyway, Good luck.  It's going to be a while before you adapt to a new sight...  And don't press it.  Time is the best medicine.

EDIT:  Shortened.  Alot.  I never fail at making myself look like an idiot.

Anyway, Good luck.  It's going to be a while before you adapt a new sight...  And don't press it.  Time is the best medicine.

and you go and write a long ass post like that for him to read

Thanks guys.  This morning the doc said the smallest ones are already gone, ans she is confident about the rest of them healing soon, the flash burn to the retinae will take a bit mroe time though, so the worst part will be pain...nothing permanent.

That's fortunate.  I just have one question: how exactly did this stove explode?  That seems like it should be the #1 design criteria for the things.

Sounds to me like testing for safety was what Shadow was doing just before it failed pretty spectacuarly.

What I'm more concerned about is why your compaines Health and Safety policy didn't require the use of heat resistant safety glasses while testing these things :(

Post by: ShadowWolf_IH on April 16, 2005, 11:32:55 am
i was testing it for a customer.  just to ensure that it wortked, not for safety or Q/A.  well it doesn't work right, i found that out.  but from now on we all have to wear safety goggles when checking over a stove.

Faulty burner Strat...i don't pretend to knwo the particulars, but there are coils inside the electric "coil" that we see on the stove.  i know about the inner coils, because one is now sticking up through the ruptured area of the burner that blew.  I should look into it more, buyt near as i can figure, the inner coil heats the gasses, and they heat the outter coil, which is what we see.  The outter coil is the one that cut loose and sent the stuff out.  I happened to be leaning over the stove to shut it off when this happened, how's that for irony.

Anyway, from what the doc said, the eyes have the thinnest layer of skin on the body, which is why it hurts so damned bad...the nerves are right there, but on the other hand, they also heal faster than any other body part for this same reason.

Raa makes me feel so dirty.
