My dads company (BP) is selling some of their old computers and I want to know if you think this is a good deal or not. It seems about right to me but i dunno for sure and I need a second opinion. Here is the deal:
Refurbished Computers
Laptops:
IBM T20 – PIII 700 mhz – 12gb – 256mb or better - DVD
$325 with Windows 2000 OS
$275 without Windows 2000 OS
Docking Station $10.00
PC’s:
IBM Netvista – PIII 800 mhz – 30gb – 128mb - DVD
$145.00 with Windows 2000 OS
$115.00 without Windows 2000 OS
With Monitor $20.00 if available
I am interested in getting a laptop with a docking station, would this be considered a good or OK deal or is it not worth it?

hmmmm that's not excessive by any means, but looking at laptops, online you can get a top of the line laptop for a little over twice that price (especially on Ebay, where you can get it for even less). consider that.
although, on the same thought, any chance you could see if your dad's company has any used rackmount servers for sale? they have to be 1U, at least dual 1 Ghz w/ 2 GB RAM; dual HD trays (hotswap or not, no biggie, we'll customize)
Just checking :D thx

< bump >
any other opinions?!?!

Well, I'd go for eBay first, too.....
What do you intend to do with it?
-
Well, lets see:
Typing papers, Wireless Internet, occasionally FREDing and some good old LAN party Starcraft.
-
Well....the stats of your sample machines would fit quite well IMHO, you'd just need a wireless card which might be difficult to get for older machines.
RAM might be another thing, I don't really know how much RAM FRED uses, but I suppose it could get a little more with growing mission size, so you might consider getting 512 MB (DDR would be better...).

bull. as long as the laptop has a PCMCIA slot (which the IBM T20 has two of), you'll be fine.

Oh, well - didn't know.
