Title: My graphics card wants to sue me
Post by: Singh on April 16, 2005, 09:39:39 pm
It's accusing me of making it do too much work by trying to render a 146k Poly model. :P

Anyways, I've started turreting the Triest. only two more turrets need to be created from scratch, but for the moment I've put some of the others on. note that this is around half the total number of small turrets I intend to put on the thing.

Anti-fighter defenses near the bridge:

Rear anti-capship turret has a few gaurds:

Overall shot of the rear upper anti -capship defenses:

There are more to come, just on their way to rendering now. I'll put em up when they are done :D

Wait, there's more!

Just off the render plate :D

Two sentries stand watch to assist and fighters in distress, and to guard the hangar against unwelcome intruders.

In the darkness of the night, the Triest blends in almost perfectly....

A look at the defenses on the underbelly. Anything that tries to venture underneath in hopes of getting to a vulnerability will be unpleasently surprised:

Any bombers thinking of removing the primary guns better think twice, as they pack two machine guns and a beam emmitor.

If you can come up with some good, suitable textures, then I dont mind implementing them :P

"Put it in-game!" :p

Very, very nice work. :)

P.S. As a side note, :P should definitely be added as another trigger for :p.

Errr..you want me to put a 146k poly ship in game, when i can barely even render it? :p

Making a low-poly version shouldn't be too hard, as most of hte polies are on hte turrets and the hangarbay. Just have to reduce the polies on those (albiet, by a lot) and it should be allright.

But I have 0% clue as to how to even convert this. I can output the basic model to Max format I think, as well as the turrets, but attaching them on and converting is not my cup o' tea :p

Remember, this is the lego equivalent for 3D moddelers that im playing with, not exactly a dedicated program in it's entirety :/

@Singh:
You know, with the extraordinary imagination and conceptual thinking you possess, you would do wonders if you learned to use a real modeling program. If you can do this with 3rd rate program, imagine what you could do with 3D Max, or even TS.
Considering the limitations of the program you used, this thing should be highlighted.
Thumbs up, mate.

actually, I can predict the outcom of using 3DSMax or any other 3d modelling program: The most ub3rized and l337 version of the GTC Cube! :p

Oh, and thanks - but really, this is peanuts compared to what hte other guys in the modding section are capable of. You call this concept? You should see some of stuff I've seen elsewhere O_O

Considering the Galactica model a while back was around 50k and still ran great, I think a model with 3 times as many might work... :p Seriously, though, a low-poly version of this would make a great in-game model.

That's what they said when I studied science. The result? All fails, with my only pass being in English :P
