Hmmm, interesting, I also have Radeon 9600 XT. I recall having similar problem some time ago, though the "effect" was lighter and more transparent, it still had resemblance. I think I changed build at that time and have not seen this bug since then...

I have also updated my drivers recently, so it may be driver-related. But as far as I remember, it didn't have my  effect on explosions.

i had something similar happen to myself, after a bit of messing about i found out that in swapping between openGL and DX it got messed up big time.  Theres probably a better way to fix it but i loaded up the original launcher ran it then reopened FS-open with the new launcher and all was well as long as i left it on DX.

Thats with a 9800 PRO modded to an XT and cats 4.4, winXP SP2 with all the eye candy turned on.

For a start you need to tick the box in the launcher that applies the GeForce fix to stop that oddness you're getting with the text. Beyond that I don't know.

Disable "Use Large Textures," and check to see if you have the latest media VPs. The SCP-crew just released the 3.5.6 pack, and perhaps all you need is some new textures?

Checking "fix font distortion problem" will solve your dizzy-text issue. Kind of an obvious fix, really.

Try removing -pcx32.  I think this was causing some interface glitches in the past.

This looks similar to the problem I was having under Linux, and the problem I've been having recently of random nebula or shivan textures replacing my gun bolts.

FS2 is pissed that you've neglected it for so long. This is it's revenge.

@Ashrak:  Looks kind of like a color space conversion problem.  What video settings are you using in the Launcher?  If you are using 16-bit then try 32-bit and see if it makes a difference.

@WMCoolmon: I got a similar problem this weekend and it's always reproducable so I'm going to try and track it down this week.

@Ashrak:  Check the detail level in the game options in make sure that "3D Hardware Textures" is at it's max.  If that fixes it then I found the problem (or part of it).  If it doesn't help let me know.  From what I've seen it shouldn't be causing all of the problems you are reporting but would probably cause a few of them.

I'd say its the drivers, try reverting back to the ones previous to the ones your using.

Go to the download page of my FAQ and get hold of the HotU crack pack. All the v1.2 files are in there.

I doubt that is your problem but it can't hurt.
