ACK! MORE TIMEWARP!
yeah, i'll just save it just in case something happens to the PHPBB one.
you guys can still post in the other 2 (invisionfree or proboards)
-
Why?
What makes this board any different from the 5 we have now? And I'm not counting Nodewars or the SCP forum. We don't need another forum with the exact same topics and members as the rest.
-
He needs it because he wants to admin us.
Probably doesn't get that will NEVER happen.
-
-
no, i just want to want to provide to the friggin' community.
-
thats what Pathways is for no?
timewarp

Nah, you have that n00bar desire every n00bar I have ever seen has, when he steps on to the forums where only valid contribution or sometimes hefty "old-skoolism" insight counts.
The n00bar wants to be important in the place he's at, and because he understands it will never happen since he has neither of the above, he goes and creates his own crap under the guise of something else, waiting impatiently for someone to step on his shoes in his own turf, so he can play god with them.
Never. Going. To. Happen.
-
[q] n00bar desire every n00bar I have ever seen has [/q]
I gotta get me some of that!
[q] he goes and creates his own crap under the guise of something else [/q]
Why haven't I done this yet? Darn it all, the other n00bars are doing it...
-
Well some "newbies" are smart, actually in this community I'd say most of them are.
N00bars on the other hand... they are special.
-
Come on BlackDove, chill. Cobra is just excited over something new he has found and learned to do. Not that either are difficult, it's just the excitement similar to getting a new toy.
I'm sure the knowledge Cobra gained while setting those forums up (even though the installation is very much automated process) will be of use later on. It's the first step on learning further about hosting.
Granted, it will probably never be a FS community because we already have so many (and most people can't be bothered about more than HLP, even less more than two forums) alternatives to HLP. But it could be something else than FS related.
-
I like how people gripe about how many forums there are.
Go and do a search for counter-strike some time, and count the number of forums that pop up.
-
Cobra, man - why not stick to one thing and get good at it? Since I've joined I've seen you attempt making models, making missions, making campaigns, trying to join every campagin under the sun, going (and trolling - why act like that to Ghost?) on the SCP forums, signing up for voice acting, making websites and now starting your own forum.
Now, how much of this stuff have you actually gotten good at? How much have you actually finished? You'd 'provide' a lot more for 'the friggin' community' if you gave us something that was good enough that nobody else was skilled or committed enough to do- and that's something that takes dedication, and investment, not just a dilletante's monomaniacal obsession-of-the-week.
-
Japong's right. For better or worse most of us consider you a member of the community so you don't need to work hard to be considered a member of the usual crowd here. You've done that much. :)
If you want respect it's a good idea to do something well rather than trying to do everything. If you point to the most respected people on the board they tend to do something very well rather than trying to do everything and failing. Even those of use who are jacks-of-all-trades like myself have a field that we are best at.
As for the forum I won't be joining. Nothing personal. I'm not joining GTD Bastion either. I simply don't have the time. As things stand I can spend more than 2-3 hours a day on the forums. No wonder I never find any time for work :D

You know what, you're totally right.
Time to go and turn myself into a CS community member.
Don't happen to have a shot of rabies I can inject myself with, do ya?

Come on, cry it out loud:
n00bar!
n00bar!!!
See?
n00bar!
hop, sig'ified.

the joining every campaign under the sun: done with that. :D
i'm just ambitious, you know?
-
the joining every campaign under the sun: done with that.
Again, stick with one thing and finish it. You have yet to finish a campaign. Besides, why on earth are you doing this if you haven't even gotten a decent start on your own campaign?
Even I finished a campaign, many years ago. It sucked, but I learned how to FRED. And soon, very soon, I shall strike back with a brand new cam-
I'm monologing again. :wtf:
mmh, there's some flavour with that word.
Come on, cry it out loud:
n00bar!
n00bar +1
Hm...n00bar 2d8 +3...heh, that's almost funny...
-
uh, we're making a demo right now, i think i consider THAT progress.

Yeah but the counterstrike community is huge too. I can't name a half-dozen people who frequent any of the HLP alternatives that aren't also regulars here. I don't know that I can name any besides friends of the moderator(s) or people who have been banned from here. Spreading things out doesn't contribute anything when the size of the community is so (relatively) small. So the point isn't that we have to many forums in general, it's that we have too many forums for our userbase. HLP by itself has proven to be unreliable at times, but at the most we only need a couple of other sites for the community to interact through. We already have 5 established, plus a couple of support forums, so I can't see how another one, especially one run by someone as unproven as Cobra (no offense of course) can possibly be of any use. I give him credit for hosting something, but it probably isn't the best way to go about things as a new member of this or any community.
-
My point is that more forums don't hurt. People obviously aren't going to start deserting HLP in droves, and if a couple people find his forums instead of HLP or post there instead of HLP then at least they're still part of the FS 'community'. And if Cobra wants to use them for campaign work instead of trying to get hosted on GW or HLP, that just alleviates the bandwidth on their servers.
I mean, at least he went to the trouble to actually set up the board rather than getting an ezBoard, like most of the n00bs do. :p And then they wonder why no one posts on their ad-infested forums that pop up a dating service offer every 60 seconds.

I did say it was an unreliable intelligence source, eh?
Wait, who comes in second? I hope I don't have to fight an arch-nemesis for this glorious title.

How's that, Raa? I dare anyone to post a rant exceeding this one in pointlessness.

Choking is not a sign of idiocy, spleenjinkens. Usage of the word "spleenjinkens," however, correctly identifies me as an overconfident, stupid, moronic jerk with a small touch of idiocy.

already did. :p
so i misspelled quote, sue me. i swear i was laughing so hard at that post. :D
