When I start Freespace Open, even with all the options off, it crashes out to the desktop with that all-too-familiar Microsoft Error Reporting dialogue box. FS2_Open semi-worked with the files straight from HotU, only freezing out on me in-mission However when I downloaded the VPs from the FTP server, after cleaning my data folder it started acting up. I have an unaltered FS2 HotU copy that I introduced the VPs to through extraction, and now even it crashes as described above too, even playing regular FS2. I can provide any error messages needed, and have posted this bug on Mantis.

IIRC HOTU relies on both files in the data directory and specially-made VP files in the main directory. You have to take care of both before you can have FS2 work properly with the real retail VPs.
-
Yes, I know. I replaced the VPs in the main folder too, but it still crashes.

Try running a debug build. They end in _d.exe and they give you a lot more information about what is going wrong. Not having FS2 installed at the moment I can't tell you the name of a recent one though.

Heh, I'm so stupid. Just noticed I never finished downloading all the parts to sparky_fs2_vp. That could be a problem....*goes to hide in a corner*

Argh, now I'm having a different problem. Had it before, dunno why. I'm on the second mission, and after command says they are deploying delta wing to bomb the asteroid base, the game locks up. it's always at the same time. I've tried with all options off, and it still freezes up. Doesn't happen in vanilla FS2 though.

Are you using 3.6.5 with mv_music or the 3.6.5 zpack? If so, that may be the problem.
-
Yes I think I am...
-
Try removing those then. the tables in mv_music - and by extension the zpack - tell FS2 to use OGG music. It was only until very recently that OGG support was finally fixed for music. (For good. I think.)
The 3.6.5 zpack also contains the tables. If you've got it rather than the individual packs, I'd suggest getting the 3.6.6 VPs to replace it (minus mv_music).
