I know quite a few of you guys are into graphics/web stuff related to Macromedia and/or Adobe.. this should be of great interest. They're merging!

LONG time coming.
-
Interesting.... I've got a job application in with a company developing some Flash+Java based tech, I wonder how this'll tie in with their work........
-
Hmm this is interesting.
I hope Flash and PS will become more compatible to each other now. ;)
On the other hand I think this could have influence on the quality of Adobe's products...
We'll see.
-
Great, now I won't have to downlo... buy two programs, I'll just be... obtaining one.
-
Hmm, this smacks of Microsoft's empire building. All companies merge into one super-giant with no competition...of course it might be good thing, who knows?
-
I know!
It's not good...
-
wow, after this they'll be pretty much unstopable.
-
Monopoly is never a good thing, because they get to dictate standards and prices all they want. Nothing like a bit of competition to keep things healthy.
-
This is going to be messy I think, I wouldn't exactly say the 2 companies work to parallel goals. Photoshop always gives me the feeling the Web Stuff was only added to keep people happy, but at it's heart, Photoshop is an Art package, not a Design package.
-
hopefully adobe will smack some sense into marcomedia and make flash's pen tool exactly like photoshop's.
-
this will either be an awesome success or an awesome failure, i await to see.
-
oh dear lord almighty... does that mean i'll haveta get used to an ENTIRELY new interface when the new proggie comes around?

there is no reason why they would make any major changes to any program's interfaces because of a merger.
-
true. true, it took me a month to get comfortable with PS7's interface after using PS6 for a long time, going from 7 to CS wasn't so bad..
but still

Adobe markets to corporations.
Macromedia markets to individuals.
This is going to be a train wreck.

I suspect that was partly the reason; help punt their stuff to an untapped market, I'm not sure if the 'light' cheap version of Photoshop did particularly well.
-
Remember when Adobe bought CoolEdit 2000, renamed it to "Adobe Audition", and tripled the price?
Let's not be surprised if history repeats itself.
-
Eugh, I hate "light" versions of anything. I consistently get the feeling they're unsupported.
-
Makes me sad to know with a merge like this will not only reduce competition but also make a lot of people lose their jobs.
-
If they **** with Director, the Flash format, or the Photoshop interface, I will be a terrorist before the dust settles!
-
I'l supply the grenades!
-
at least if the company dies photoshop 7 would become abandonware :D
-
I don't like this.
Macromedia and Adobe products have always had distinct features in their applications that separate them from each other and put their programs ahead of the rest in the IT industry. I just hope something good comes out of this
-
I've never liked Macromedia and their total disregard for user interface conventions in their programs. For example, I have Flash open, and an item in the library panel selected. I scroll the mouse wheel, which, one would think, would scroll the list of items in the library panel. But nooooo, it scrolls the main document!
-
I don't have that problem with Flash MX, it just doesn't scroll vertically in the library panel but it does scroll horizontally

Yeah, it's things like those that ruin my days sometime.

After re-reading Sandwich's article and reading other sources I've come to see that its not really a merge of Adobe and Macromedia, its actually an acquisition of Macromedia by Adobe. Apparently they might  drop some titles that are currently in Macromedia's portfolio.
Heres a good source to check out: http://www.kottke.org/05/04/adobe-macromedia-acquisition-roundup
