Title: Star Trek: New Voyages
Post by: Ghost on April 21, 2005, 04:49:13 pm
To borrow from them, the future lies in the past.

Anyone else checked this out? And if you plan on watching them, 56kers beware....

They're not remaking episodes of TOS... they're making new episodes of TOS. They're pretty good; Episode 402(season 4, episode 2, for those unfamiliar with ST numbering convention) is ridiculously good. And before you diehard Trekkies chew me out, it's just as good as the original.

Bad scary or...um..good scary? And why?

I watched about 20 seconds of a trailer, got to a really bad rendition of 'War', which should never ever be used in a Star Trek episode, saw what looked like some really strange Fanboys in suits about 4 sizes too big for them and stopped the video because quite frankly, I felt embarrased for them.

Sorry.... No Hit in my books :(

Shatner did it.

Why did you watch the trailers? They suck, I agree. Watch the episodes; Ep. 2 is ****ing great.

Since TOS ended at season 3, these guys are finishing it. It's the years between TOS and The Motion Picture.

That was TEH B3ST3ST!!!!!!1111111

Awesome!!!

Bonus points for having William Windom reprise his role as Decker!

Although, I did dislike what they did to the Doomsday Machine.

At least it moved, no? And I didn't know it was the same actor, but that's cool as hell.

Their reasoning was that it wasn't as banged up as the one you see in TOS.

As time travel is hard for me to comprehend, I've been watching it over and over again so I can get it completely.

they don't look anything like the original actors. and they aren't very good actors either.

and what is up with Kirk's hair?

some of the effects are really good, but others are awful.

Are you saying Shatner was good?

Kirk's hair= pokey.

They're not trying to look like the original actors; if they wanted that, they'd use the Source engine.

And it's keeping in spirit of TOS.

I think it was more menacing in TOS.  Also, the bloody things are made of Neutronium, that's bloody hard to manipulate no matter how advanced you're science.  It makes sense that it would appear to be deformed...

Have you watched that episode recently? It's not menacing. Not really, anyway. Anyway, I thought they were effin great.

I watched some of this before. Couldn;t get past the mediocre acting and abscence of resemblance to the original actors/characters.

You people make me sad. Those two episodes have classic Trek written all over them. You guys are just blind. Want resemblance to the original actors? Go to the part where Admiral Kirk tells Captain Kirk on the Farragut to 'contact Carol.' There's your goddamn resemblance.

They did an awesome job on Chris Pike at the end of the first one.

my god... what the hell is this?! the actors don't even look like the real thing, spock looks like an 18-year-old, Uhura looks...well, dumb, these guys just don't look the part.

and the Doomsday Machine sucks.

[EDIT] what the hell?

Look, they've got the characterizations down...mostly...and the effects are top notch for this level of production.  There are other...worse...offerings.

The first episode was good, but the second one was so convoluted and fast paced I didn't know what was happening...

I can agree, but it's still really good. For me, it took 2 or 3 watchings to really get it. I still don't fully understand it...

Hmmmmmmmm. well, I'm going to be fair and download the actual episodes, the trailers, however, do nothing to promote the series :)

Dudes.... have a little appreciation, Otherwise go make your own damn episodes! Seriously my hat's off to them. When fans can follow a dream and say "screw everyone else, this is what we want to do cause we love it" then that's an amazing thing...

FYI "Kirk" Is a professional Elvis Impersonator (hence the hair)

They weren't going for an all professional cast. They try the best they can with who they got. Only some of the team are semi-professionals. This is still basicly an amatuer production and my god it's inspiring, not for the content itself, but for the effort and the achievement!

BTW Star Wreck 6 "In the Pirkginning" is also an amatuer production. Check it out at starwreck.com
