No really, wtf?
-
Let me guess, not a single Israeli or Palestinian on the team. Yup, it's always great fun making light of other people's tragedies.
-
So what? It looks like a semi-Desert Combat type arrangement for HL2.
Granted, the subject matter could be treading on thin ice, but it should be no more upsetting to anyone than the slew of WW2 and Vietnam based games that are out there.
-
It's a bit risky, but after the travesty that is KumaWar, this doesn't really appear too bad.
Bet you can't play as the Pallys though ;)
-
Apparently if you choose the nickname "Sandwich", you get to use a Browning .50 machine gun as primary weapon.
-
Talk about attention to detail ;)
-

Yeah, but the drawback is that you have to play for Israel.
-
I'm looking forward to getting mowed down by automatic rifles while trying to kill people by throwing rocks in their windows.
-
Yeah, how could you play as the Palestinians? Imagine the score in a DM - Suicide Bomber Vyper has Killed Himself 25 times.

You suck-up you. :p
I'm half-tempted to join the team to keep things real; what the heck's with all those IDF soldiers armed with handguns? The IDF doesn't arm its soldiers with handguns.
The rest is fairly accurate... the Negev toter guy should have 5x 200 bullet bag things, not 2. And yes, it gets danged heavy.
Plus there's a lot of loadouts they're missing... the M16 + grenade launcher combo, the "accurate weapon" M16A2E3 with it's enhanced green-tipped bullets (more gunpowder) and hardened barrel, the poor sods lugging around a 52 or 60mm mortar on their backs (*waves*)... ;)
-
Hey, at least you don't have to die on purpose ;)
-
Is the Israeli military using Tavors at all, or is that one of those things which never made it into wider distribution?

Well, I saw a Tavor once, on a much-higher-up giving us a pep-talk after Op. Defensive Shield. From what I understand, actual usage by regular soldiers is limited to a couple of tryout units scattered here and there. There's also the cost issue... an M16 costs the IDF $1, a Tavor costs (IIRC) ~$1k.
-
I wonder if you can drive bulldozers and crush boobee trapped refugee camps ;7
-
Nah, I'm looking forward to bulldozing apartments and shooting up people with gunships. ...and then flying the tapes to CNN :)
As for the Hamas side. Do you get bonus points for blowing up civilians from designated 'enemy' countries?
-
[q] an M16 costs the IDF $1[/q]
:wtf: You're ****ting me?
-
That's nothing. The German airforce sold Mig-29s to the Polish for $1 a piece. It's just a symbolic amount, the weapons industry gets paid in full, but by the donor country (or at least that's how I interpret this.).
-
I wonder if they'll have an option to be a roving investigative reporter. I know they're an extinct breed, but it is a game, after all...
-
I want to play as Ariel Sharon.
-
-
I doubt they'll let you play as an old fashioned terrorist.

It's part of the American aid package or something like that - all I know for sure is that the long M16's Israel is still using are mostly from the Vietnam days.
-
Interesting MOD....
Might give it a whirl (on the Palestinian side)
-
how much do the rocks cost that the palestinians throw at tanks?

Wow, we're cheap. :doubt:
-
Weren't the Vietnam era M-16s a complete shower of ****e, though? Kept jamming and failing, so much that captured AK-47s were a prized posession?

Yeah, saw a documnetary on that. They were told to only use the M-16's due to symbolism but they didn't trust the guns due to frequent jams and the fact that the clip exit could be easily dented rendering it useless.
How many third world guerilla outfits do you see driving around in flatbed Toyotas with M-16's? Even the A-Team used AK's albeit chromed ones. :D

You know, I just realised, I noticed this with horror yet while playing Cs: Condition Zero felt absolutely no shock at Irish terrorists being one of the enemies.
Then again why the **** would the IRA steal a nuke? Stupid CS writers.

Are you kidding?!? Do you know how many pints of Guinness you can get for a nuke these days? ;)
THey probably saw Patriot Games and thought it was real.

Wasn't that Ronin?

The M16 certainly is not the most reliable assault rifle in the world; the Israeli-made Galil is even based off the AK-47 as opposed to the M16. The AK/Galil can be dropped in sand, mudded up, and generally filthitized, and still fire pretty much perfectly. The M16, well... at least (IIRC) getting wet doesn't bother it. :nervous:
-
Could be worse; you could be using an SA-80........
-
Games that explore political quagmires are always a touchy subject. Especially when a side is chosen in detriment of the other, and the reality is twisted to fit the political view of the authors.
Strangely enough, we don´t see anyone making a Iraqi Resistence vs. US Army mod. It´s always the other way around.
Me, i prefer to play the underdog. So unless they make the mod playable on both factions, i won´t touch this with a 10 foot pole.
I want to play the 12 year old boy throwing 1/2 pound stones at the 30 ton tanks. Playing the Reuters camera-man/reporter could be interesting too, to see how many tanks i can destroy with my Sony Handycam with focus lenses, loaded with a high explosive 38mm role of film...

55+ ton tanks.

Is it true the Galil has a bottle opener?

You know what they say about people with big guns..... ;)
Well.... from a very long way away at least :D

I never used a Galil, so I can't say for sure. I've never heard that, but I wouldn't be surprised to discover that some of the corners and protrusions can be used for such... noble purposes. :p
-
On the wikipedia article I read there was major wear and tear on the trigger guard on some rifles due to such uses, and they put a proper bottle opener on the back of it instead.

Hah! That sounds quite possible. I'm asking my friend who had a Galil in his service to confirm. :)
