I forget what it's called, "Saving the Colossus", "Heavyweights", "Look a giant *****"...it involves the Colossus somehow.
Anyway, does anyone have this OEM version of FS2 and tried the SCP with it? There's some stuff in the code that would theoretically let us build an OEM build, I'm playing with the idea of removing it entirely to clean up the code somewhat, or setting things up so an ordinary FS2 build will work with it.
So, I'm curious if there's any demand for this, and how usable FS2_Open is with the OEM data.

Are you talking about "Freespace 2: Collossus", which came in selected Logitech gaming sticks some years back?
-
I think so. ;) IIRC, it also came with some PCs, and there've been some people who've tried to use it.
-
I had that installed on my second PC but that's in bits at the moment.
As far as I could see Colossus is a full version of FS2 with respect to things like Sparky_vp etc. What's missing is the cb_anis etc for anything beyond the first act.
FS2_open would probably run perfectly well on it. I'll give it a try once my second PC is up and running again :)

I reinstalled from a OEM version but must be region specific (it was burned at my workplace in PA - Bundled software NOT for retail) that's how I scored 6 complete sets... My original retail ones bit the dust from scratches last year :( Other than the warning on the disk it seems like the same as my retail version. (remember when I posted a pic of 27 copies of disk three on my bed lol, 12 copies of disk one and 6 copies of disk 2)...
-
I think there are some OEM versions that are very similar to retail. It's pretty much a certainty that FS2_Open will work with them :)
WMC is on about FreeSpace : Colossus which is a stripped down version that fits onto one disk.

I got a full FS2 as bundled software :p
I saw a stick like, 2 years ago that said it came with it... Suprised me, because that was about when I started going under...
-
i got my FS2 in an electronics superstore. :D
i never heard of this OEM...
-
My FS2 came from Electronics Boutique. My FS1, however, was P3 OEM.
-
My FS2 came from a friends computer actually... He loved FS1, but apparently didn't like FS2...
I got FS1 from my mom, who got it from one of her coworkers who was going to install it in the school computer lab or something, after his son referred him to it after becoming addicted... (all in the first month it came out
-
Same as Raa for me, I couldn't update FS1 because I got it with my computer.
-
I got FS2:Collossus with my Logitech game stick, played it to death, then bought FS1+ST, played it to death, downloaded FS2 from K*ZaA and HOTU, then borrowed the install disks from a friend of mine and copied them. I still have in fact 2 copies of the FS2:Collossus game, though none installed.
-
I downloaded FS2 a long time ago from Kazaa that had placeholder files for the sound and music in all the folders and placeholder vps. I eventually bought that 20 year version, took all the parts appropriate from it, and stuck it in the downloaded version. I ended up with a product that doesnt require cds to play or watch the .mov clips in.
-
Finally got round to fixing my second PC. I'll give colossus a try now.
DeepSpace9er : That was either the HotU version or something very similar to it just in case you were wondering :D
-
Okay. Gave it a try.
Interestingly Colossus uses it's own registry settings (and exe for that matter) which are different from those used by FS2. That may cause some of the problems I've heard of HotU users getting due to the registry not being set up correctly. However I believe that this problem has been fixed (and will become moot when Random Tiger finishes launcher 6 anyway) so it's not a huge problem.
When I launched colossus + SCP I got this error at first
Title : PlayWnd Sample
Error : FAILED(hr=0x80004002) in pVW -> SetWindowPosition (extra_w, extra_h, video_rescale_w, video_rescale_h_ (DShow error)
I didn't actually have the divx codec on that PC at the time so after slapping my forehead and installing it the problem went away. Might be nice to have a more useful error message but I'm guessing that this error came from windows not FS2.
Anyway, I only played as far as the first mission but so far things seem to work.
-
Can you post the game?
-
Why on Earth should I do that? Play the first ten missions of FS2 and then quit and you've got exactly the same thing.
-
It wasnt because the voice worked and sound worked. The placeholder files were the sound bits.
