Together with my new joystick (http://europe.thrustmaster.com/products/d_prd.php?p=T62&fam=6) came a demo of "Abyss Light: Frozen Systems".
I've never heard of it before, but some googling brought up their site: http://www.abyss-lights.com/
Apparently it's a Ukrainian game studio, and by the looks of it they know what they're doing:

Gameplay is similar to FreeSpace/Wing Commander, graphics remind me of Homeworld2 (the soundtrack adds to that).
The demo can be downloaded from their site, for those who are interested.
I recommend to check it out...if only for the graphics, they have some purdy shaders.

that's a sexy jumpgate.

Looks minbari. And I don't even watch B5.

those ships are totally funny looking.

Looks cool. I'll have to give it a try.

I was about ready to say that it looks like how I'd make a Minbari jumpgate appear :)
Looks interesting.

It plays almost exactly like Freespace. Arcade physics are always a plus in my book. :p Nice graphics, too. This might be one to keep an eye on.

has the game been released yet?

I guess not....but their site isn't very clear about that ;)

Well, it shows potential. But it needs a bit of work on the physics and effects, banking in particular is... weird.

Hmm graphics seem pretty nifty.
Nice joystick by the way.
I really need to get a new one myself. I never really took much to the thruster things. I prefer my left hand on the keyboard.
Does it provide enough functionability to negate the use of the keyboard?

Not completely....i.e. in FS2 I still need the keyboard for advanced targeting (turrets, bombs, subsystems) and wingman orders. But it has enough buttons to control all ship movements and weapon controls (+basic targeting) -> so no need for keyboard when dogfighting Shivans.
But the HOTAS setup is fun, and Comanche 4 with this stick = r0xx0rs teh b0xx0rs!!!111
