Earth, before it was severed from the rest of the GTA. So, what will it be like, 330 years from now? How great population would it have (population would have propably started to decline at some point due to colonization)? How polluted would it be? ;) Luna would obviously be heavily industrialised and populated as well by then, most likely equal to Earth itself.
From the FSRB:"Earth (sometimes half-jokingly called Terra by spacers) has naturally become the super-industrial hub of the GTA’s space empire. All central government functions take place on, or in orbit around Earth."
I suppose the GTA (being a massive interstellar federal government as far as I understand it) has abolished national governments, and has formed regional, geopolitical blocs like the EU, China, and such, governed from a single capital.
Discuss!

Excerpt from History Of Freespace:
Chapter 1: A New Frontier
In the year 2313, everyone was living as they were 300 years before then. Sure, the compact disks were smaller, the flatscreen TVs were a bit flatter, and life was a bit more technologically advanced. However, there was still crime, rivaling political ideals, taxes, disease, and long, hard days of labor. However, this minimal technological progress between 2000 and 2313 was mainly due to one fact. Man realized that the only way to make giant leaps in technology and to have significant military advantage over rival countries was to launch their empires into space. All scientists had their hands full with this task. Construction on a large-scale space station began. The result was the UEI Arcadia. The technological masterpiece was completed in 2195 by the United Powers of Europe. It served as an operating station for all space exploration activities. The massive space station was three kilometers long and had plasma defensive turrets incase it was attacked by a rival country’s space missile. The Arcadia also served as a shipyard, producing the first cruiser class warship, the UEC Fenris. The Fenris was originally built to orbit the moon and monitor it from close range. It was about 500 meters (about 1500 feet) long, and weighed a whopping 180 tons if it were to land on Earth (which it couldn’t do). The Fenris proved to be a spectacular success, and many more were built. However, under the nose of the UPE, danger was lurking.
China had secretly built its’ own spacefleet of copied Fenris designs. The UPE responded by building hundreds of small ships, known as “fighters” which were no more than 10 meters long. Fighters were armed with forward-facing plasma cannons and were manned by one pilot. They also carried a secondary armament of missiles. Some heat-seeking, some aspect-locking, and some dumbfires. China responded by building its own fightercraft, and other world powers such as the US and Russia built spacefeets. Cold war dominated the next 118 years as the countries built up their forces. The cogs and gears of destiny were set into motion.
Chapter 2: Unification Wars
You may have wondered why I mentioned the year 2313 previously. The fact of the matter is that that day could possibly have been the most important day in Terran history. That day marked the discovery of subspace.
The story goes like this: A US science cruiser, the USSC Joule, was patrolling deep in the solar system when it stumbled upon bizarre sensor reading. Scientific analysis concluded that the area contained an invisible wormhole, or a place where an object can warp from one fixed point in the universe to another one. After nearly one year of specially engineering the Joule’s engines, it was ready to test out this bizarre natural phenomenon. The Joule warped into a strange, shifting blue corridor, later to be known as subspace. After traveling for a few minutes in this twisted dimension, it was pulled out of subspace and deposited near the star Delta Serpentis.
Earth was in jubilation! Never before had they even thought of leaving the Sol system! Traveling to Delta Serpentis by conventional methods would take over 90,000,000,000 years with even in the fastest spacecraft, but thanks to subspace nodes, Earth could span this great distance in mere minutes. Obviously, they couldn’t travel just anywhere, as they had to use an already existing jump node to travel in. No one is sure how subspace nodes came to be, but scientists believe it is a natural, randomly occurring phenomena. Delta Serpentis had loads of fueling gas near the star. This gas is very valuable, as it is used to power most space faring vessels. On Earth, fueling gas had to be man made and was very costly and scarce, but in Delta Serpentis, the gas was all pre-made and ready for collecting. As nations set their eyes hungrily on this new resource, scientists found a way to actually open a rift in subspace, and use it to travel short distances within a particular star system. This made it easier for vessels to jump from planet-to-planet without actually traveling the distance. These became known as intra-system jumps. Long distance jumps from star-to-star using a pre-existing jump node came to be known as inter-system jumps. Scientists started research on a form of jumping from system to system by just creating your own rift, but they soon found out that only short distance intra-system jumps were possible.
This, of course, made the jump node out of Sol of extreme strategic importance, since there was no other way to reach Delta Serpentis to harvest its rich gas. World war soon broke out, with the jump node as prize. The world realized that the only way to create a successful inter-stellar society, Earth must unify into one nation. After 2 years of fierce fighting, the United European Powers allied themselves with the America’s. The nations designed and began construction on a super-ship, a vessel that could decisively nullify any threats against it. The Euro-American alliance quickly eliminated all other country’s spacefleets within one year. The war was surprisingly quick for the Euro-Americans, as their secret weapon was not even completed yet! After a few months of putting down riots and rebel groups, the Euro-American alliance now ruled the entire planet. The government renamed themselves the Galactic Terran Alliance. The new government was run exactly like the old United States government. A democracy by the people and for the people. In September of 2319, the mega-warship was finally completed. The GTD Orion was crowned as flagship of the immense GTA fleet. The destroyer-class vessel was a bit over two kilometers long, and was packed to the gills with death dealing turrets. The image of the ship alone sent chills down the spines of rebel groups planning revolt. This would secure the new government’s military power and discourage rebel activity. The GTA was here to stay.

By the way, do you think that the people who live in Luna are called Lunatics?
-
@ Andreas-- no. Luniites.
-
No, Lunians. :D
-
Loonies... :nervous:
That may or may not be the official title from TVWP as well. :nervous:
-
[q]From FS Ref Bible
Earth (sometimes half-jokingly called Terra by spacers) has naturally become the super-industrial hub of the GTA’s space empire. All central government functions take place on, or in orbit around Earth.
[/q]
-
So maybe the rest of the solar system is decentralized. :nervous:

How about Mooninites? :p
-
Well hopefully we will manage to eradicate global warming and have enough time to acclimate to the rising sea levels and avoid other environmental disasters. However, for some reason I think Earth will look somewhat like Coruscant. The moon will most certainly look like it. Maybe we'll even all get along as well. Wouldn't that be nice?

Humanity will never cooperate until they make contact with the Vasudans. They need something from the 'outside' to make them band together as a 'species.' That's the way it works. People are not meant to be left alone.

This unfortunately, is probably true. :( What about Star Trek economics? Oh wait, that requires unity too.

Earth in 2335 will be vastly different to Freespace's earth in 2335. No Sci Fi has truly captured the degree of technologically driven change that will occur over the next 100 years or so. Stuff like nanotechnology, wireless internet and microtechnology will mean that even 50 years from now, society will be unrecognizable.
-
So, who's going to discover modern subspace?
-
Google.
-
At this rate, probably.
-
In 50 years, Google will run the world. Come to think of it, that doesn't seem so bad. Better than Bill Gates, at least. :p
-
Google is an evil we do not yet know, where as Gates is the evil we know all too well.

...and no one mentioned the Great Uprising AKA World War III yet.
The most intresting aspect of it will be the lack of sides, intiators, or merly victors.
It will be a mad clash of all the pent of pressure of the "forced" modernisation in the 20-21th century.
It would almost bring down the whole of the international economy, and civilisation (some parts of the Earth are eternally wound).
Anyway here's what I wrote up years ago:
2051 The Great Uprising: ...or World War-III
It never was called WWIII, although by all the means the event deserves the title. It was the first sign that the planet's capacity had been stretched beyond its limits.
It was both an economic, social and political catastrophe.
The uprising begun with the fall of the Chinese party in Manchuria. The rebels called for Pakistan's help, who in turn wanted their help against India.
The ensuing hostility resulted in the only strategic nuclear exchange ever to scar the planet. The two countries signed a truce, but it was already too late, the enraged masses brought the war onto the streets and the situation got out of control.
Meanwhile the Chinese forces advanced on the badly outnumbered the rebels. Russia came to their aide, hoping to crush the old regime. This lead to the Chechen conflict’s re-ignition. NATO intervention held the danger of another war with Russia, though it ended with a stalemate.
The Arabian countries saw their chance to regain their control over the oil lost during Iraq's occupation. The joint UN forces opposed them; however the US wanted to retain their position, which delayed a solution.
The complete lockup of the UN forces allowed the rebellion of the 3'rd world countries in Africa and South America - later on Mexico gave the US trouble near their own household — who wanted to get rid of the transnational influence. The said influence was enforced by the G11 on their countries, without truly overseeing the companies, who in turn exploited them much like in the colonial era.
During the whole ordeal people rebelled against their own government who were evidently corrupt most of time, since the transnats brought them to their position. Communist, Anarchist and even Fascist forces seized cities in Europe in the name of peace and justice furthering the chaos.
In central Europe Hungary was once again facing a Romanian invasion, while Poland was in general civil revolt against the government. The Czech and Slovakia came to their aide according to their admission into the EU, however it only lead to the fights being drift into the Balkans where the old hatred quickly lead to a new stage of general war.
The crisis finally resolved when Russia made a truce with the NATO and the Manchurian rebellion was quelled, the party reenacting its power.
However the Arabian countries reached their goal to an extent — they could make peace with the UN instead the US and in turn could argue for better oil-prices. Africa and South America had to deal with their rebellions on their own, though the G11 retrieved some of its servitor countries.
Israel has undergone the so-called seven-day siege, and took horrendous losses, since neither the US nor the EU could help it, and this time the entire weigh of the OPEC countries was against it; but the country still managed to hold out, in the end even tactical nukes were used.
Oddly the conflict has actually reinforced the transnat power — though most of the G11 and the ISC have been greatly weakened in the conflict. Furthermore the 3'rd world countries preferred direct corporate control to their own bureaucracy.
The Balkan had to be forcefully pacified, and among the several small terror attacks that happened during the Uprising, this was the area where biological and chemical weapons — mostly from the Soviet heritage — where used, and such diseases like smallpox were reintroduced.
Only Canada, Australia and Japan were spared from the flames, but even they had to deal with their own rebellions, furthermore Japan was attacked by "green-terrorist" on several occasions.
The EU states came through the conflict with less harm than the East, but in most cases leftern parties where in ruling position, that gave the illusion of less corporate influence, that could explain why the transnat/metanational build-up wasn't realized.
The USA had lost many of its footholds worldwide, while isolationist waged war at home — the government actually had to rely on the growing corporate power to maintain peace, which the public later approved.
The crisis was based on the economic oppression of the Southern countries by the North, which wasn't resolved, though it vented some of the social pressure and forced a restructure of governance in almost all countries so it delayed the political crisis.
To prevent another crisis the World Court was created inside the UN with the task of overseeing the goods distribution throughout the planet. However it quickly became a general forum and battleground for the now mighty transnationals and the founding states were used as puppeteered representatives. On the other hand the Court indeed insured a minimal support for every person on the planet, and it also made the colonization efforts possible. The later also vented some critical pressure in the form of migration until the foundation of the UNE which finally resolved the economic crisis and thereby created a unified planet.
2051-2070 The Rise of the Transnationals: The era of consolidation and the rise of another crisis in the background.
The oil reserves run short, the OPEC looses most of its influence. Europe is suffering from the rising sea-levels, the Netherlands are flooded from the Belgium, on the other hand the methane-hydrate mining brings a new renaissance, East-Europe in once again in the position to create an agro conjuncture. The process finally brings on the modernization of the countries.
Africa is united under transnat. power; the civil wars cease under the firm -and welcome! — corporate oppression, within 10 years the lower classes start to conspire for a rebellion.
Asia is entering its post-modern era, however the increasing life-standards only sever the overpopulation problem, Western-Europe accepts a rush of immigrants around 400 million, the ethnic tension rises. India introduces enforced sterilization while China regulates the one-child one family program, through the legal kidnapping of any later children who are trained to be the elite-force of the state — Amnesty Int. and other civil rights organizations express disapproval of both cases, though the World Court validates the actions.
Transnational move into the Thailand, Korea and Siam, soon the entire area is under their influence.
This is also the start of the "shadow-war". The transnationals start their own campaigns of industrial-espionage, bribery, and threats to rise above their concurrents. The conflict is strengthened by the fact that the security forces are second only to the G11 and Russian militaries, although their top-line equipment and staggering mobility makes any direct opposition suicidal for the later. The sheer might of these countries on the other hand prevents the sec.-forces from being in a better position.
The transnational status is greatly reformed out of necessity to counter the great alliances in existence as well to create a larger power basis the transnats form greater units through peace talks, fusions, and takeovers; spiced with lots of espionage, break-ups and betrayals common to the shadow-war.
Finally only six transnats remain:
- Trans-Atlantic un-ltd.
-
-
-
-
-
The transnats build up their space-corp. division as part of their satellite shadow-warfare/development project.
The basis for nuclear engines is developed by a joint NATO-Trans-Atlantic consortium. The whole project is shadowed by the threat from nuclear pollution, as well as protests of the general public.
Later Russia and G11 develop their own engine based on the late Soviet rocket projects with European founding.
2070-2074 The Second Space Race: The World Court unanimously announces the need for stellar colonization, for the Earth is running out of fossil fuel, and any further nuclear solution would endanger the already beaten ecosystem. The need for certain elements — especially more handy nuclear isotopes are also needed. The list also includes rare metals like titan, chrome, vanadium, wolfram and a wide range or rare elements.
The aims of the project are:
-Exploration and development of space technology
-Creation of resource gathering and transmitting facilities
-Development of nuclear power for use in space AND/OR solar power AND transmission of that power onto Earth
-Development of housing and long term space-residence.
Both the G11 countries along with the transnats begin their own projects, the funds provided by the Court make the whole idea a feasibility. Finally only a couple of projects remain in competition.
For a more economic space-launch several designs competed: the G11/Russian rocket based Starchaser with X transnat providing 40% of the funds; the US/NATO found Space-plane, the only project without transnat interference mainly due to its military aspect; and the Y transnat/EU Sänger two stage plane . The purely transnat Black-Spear is only rumored of.
The new space stations are the Russian Novy-Mir, the upcoming transnat found Deep-Blau and SanShiRyo along with the old ISS.
2071 early July: The Sänger program goes bankrupt along with Novy-Mir. The EU project is fused with its American counterpart which suffers from similar financial problems. The Sänger is similar in concept to the Space-Plane, so a 3'rd design is accepted; combining the benefits of both designs. Nowy-Mir is put out of service, most of its modules are transferred to ISS.
2071 August: The Starchaser announces its first launch — the rocket takes of successfully, but during the re-entry the space-craft burns up in the atmosphere. The nuclear-engines malfunctioned, the Court puts a hold on the project in fear of another catastrophe, that would pollute the entire world. Corporate sabotage is believed to be involved.
2072 March 15: The new space plane project is revealed to the public. The Verne von Braun is a one stage scram-jet/nuclear powered space-shuttle with an advanced titanium hull similar to the one used on the Blackbird, but much more durable.
2072 late summer: SanShiRyo announces successful fusion reaction created in space, later the ISS copies the experiment. For orbiting stations in space fusion power seems feasible.
2072 October: The Black-Blade AKA Black-Spear makes its startling appearance. Rather than a rocket or a plane the Blade is a VTOL craft with nuclear engines. The craft is a success though it is horrendously more dangerous than the earlier Starchaser. A complaint is forwarded in the World-Court, however the Court is dubious, since so far this design had been the most successful.
2073 January 3: The World Count passes the proposal for a Lunar and a later Martian manned voyage. Both spaceships' construction — the Artemis, and Hades — immediately begins.
Artemis is constructed by Deep-Blau. Later the entire project will be given to the station; so for the rest of the century SanShiRyo and the ISS will be the major technological developers. Artemis is a reusable craft unlike the Hades, and is 100% space borne with several landers to make touchdown. The Artemis is also a model for later short-range shuttles to be used in the solar-system.
The Hades is a more conventional and a lot lumpier craft since it is built at the ISS from, used fuel-pods. Later the same pods would provide the chassis for the landing crafts. The spaceship will be dissembled, and the pods fitted with heat-shields. The project would immediately create a small colony on Mars due to the staggering expenditures compared to a Lunar mission. This is the first ship to use a centrifugal force for artificial gravity.
Both ships are fitted with the greatest nuclear engines in existence.
2073 February 14: ISS announces they have derived a developed a new electro-magnetic material. The new so called “aligners” are perfect coils on a nano-scale, created through zero-gravity crystallization.
2073 February 19: Deep-Blau also starts the production of aligners, although ISS hasn’t made the recipe public. The shadow-war is brought into the public’s attention. The technology is freely given to SanShiRyo to prevent another incident.
The aligners are so fine that a cm3 they can absorb a several MJ of electro-magnetic charge. The new material is tested on the newest armors. Combined with a pre-electrification system, it can render battle tanks invulnerable to most conventional attacks.
High yield explosions, particle canons and high-temperature resisting projectiles (earlier developed against electrified low mass armors) are still effective, though the required energies are beyond accustomed measures.
The material is extremely expensive on the other hand and can only be manufactured in zero-g. The space stations have their first monopoly — and very profitable one from the start.
2073 May 1: The World Court announces the tender: "Reach for the Stars" the winner would be the major transporter during the initial phase of the solar expenditure and colonization.
2073 April 17: The first race between the Black-Blade and the Von Braun. In atmospheric flight the Von Braun is definitely superior, due to its airplane heritage. It also has a higher reach in space thanks to its more powerful engine.
In terms of high-precision maneuvering and infrastructure support, the Black-Blade is more versatile, furthermore its operation is more efficient.
2073 June 5: The Court decides to use both projects, the Black-Blade will be used in the building of the later stations and ships, as well as acting as a service ship; while the Von Braun will be given the task of ferrying heavy cargo into orbit; and reaching farther objects in the Earth globe – namely the Lagrange points 4 and 5 in the Earth-Moon system.
2073 October 23: SunShiRyo produces the first viable nuclear engine for use in inter-planetary travel. The engines used so far were only tapping the potential of the method, and were even less effective than conventional rockets, albeit more economic.
This is still a low-profile nuclear engine using fission, but with the use of advanced alloys it can match and even outrun the potential of chemical rockets (the power of the later could also be increased using the alloys, but their fuel is a lot more expensive).
The Artemis will be the first ship to utilize the new engine. It’s completion is delayed by 3 months, to make time for creating and installing the engine.
2073 December 24: The Artemis is 80% complete, the Ares is ready to launch.
2073 December 24-25 — Eve of Christmas: The Ares embarks on its journey on the Eve of Christmas. The event is a worldwide celebration. Carrying 101 colonists, the best the nations of Earth or the transnationals have to offer; the space-ship embarks on its maiden voyage to conquer the first alien planet in human history.
2074 February: Artemis is completed. It would create the first mines on Luna, as well as the space-docks for any further exploration. The craft is expected to land 3 month after reaching the Moon, having built a space-port for itself.
The Ares has done 1/3 of its journey. The astronauts onboard start to get the initial problems with their half year long imprisonment; some of the staff show signs of claustrophobia.
Political tension is also rising between the transnat and national parts of the crew, as well as the Southerns and G11.
The situation is getting hot as transnat Z demands the reconsideration of the Artemis program since it has been the major contractor for Deep-Blau and later the station, was literally “occupied” by the World Court once the Artemis was in construction.
Transnat B declines, since it was the major contractor on the Artemis. G11 intervenes since the project was their initiative in the first place, regardless the contractors. The United 3’rd World demands their own representation in the program, arguing that they have provided most of the resources, and while the G11 benefited from all the advancements, their countries are still suffering from poverty and famine.
2074 March 06: The international situation is intensifying. The Hades has managed to qualm its own troubles, but through an act rather criticized back on Earth.
The crew announced after a heated month filled with quarrels and occasional fights—and eventually the death of the flights captain Sullivan “Knight” Templar, who died trying to settle the dispute—that the Mars Flight will be a scientific project independent of both national and transnational influence, and would answer to the World Court exclusively.
Although the decision was frowned upon, the Court approved it, since it was in correspondence with their original demands toward the project.
At the funeral of their captain, the crew also decided to never let another similar event arise, they enacted the “Zero Tolerance Pact” that would ban all forming of rights for either the projects equipment or later on any feature of Mars. This is also the rise of the Reds . Several crewmembers—geologists, biologists and people of all kinds of profession demanded that the mission should not pollute the planet they are about to visit and colonize, moreover they should act with extreme care to preserve the planets long geological history; and its life if there’s any.
2074 May 01: The Artemis is launched. Learning from the Lesson of the Hades, the transnats B and Z form a joint committee to gain the major influence over the mission – they also manage to convince the other transnats to give them the G11 support as well.
2074 May 06: The Artemis reaches the Moon and for the first time in more than 200 years humans set foot on the satellite of their homeworld. Outposts are created on the polar regions, the construction of the Artemis’ space dock begins.
In Earth orbit the old launch-station is retrofitted to be the sister station of the Lunar one.
2074 June 13: After six month of journey the Ares reaches Mars. It is immediately dissembled. For 2 weeks equipment is remote-landed in unmanned capsules.
2074 Jun 18: With the Moon-Station airtight and under its own power Artemis sets course for Earth returning with the first deep-drilled samples.
The foundation of the Nuclear Reactor Szilard is complete, the core is undergoing test runs, it is expected to do experimental smolding on the Al and Ti rich Lunar rock.
2074 Jun 24: First Manned Landing on Mars. The colonist create the first human settlement on the planet, prospecting for resources. Trial of experimental terraformation procedures (which decades later prove ineffective).
2074 November 15:
2074-2120 The Scattering:

You left out some very important dates;
June 22, 2053: faced with the "Great Uprising". Australia chooses to cede from the planet Earth and launches itself into orbit, becoming AusSat 1.
June 22, 2053; That afternoon, AusSat 1 leaves Earth orbit, only to find out that the age old myth is indeed true, the Earth really is flat, held aloft by several giant Elephants, in turn standing upon a gigantic Turtle, swimming in a sea of Milk.
June 23, 2053; Faced with this new knowledge, Australia, or rather AusSat 1, decides that Earth is just too damn weird to live on, so it engages it's Helio-Taculistic-Molecular-Doohickey-Sub-Standard Space Drive in an effort to go to Mars, unfortunately, a power surge from someone turning on an appliance with a faulty wire causes the Drive to malfunction, and Australia ends up stranded in deep space.
May 5, 2335; Australia has become a prosperous space bourne nation, despite being stranded in Deep Space with no resources, supplies, or over Oxygen, which stands testament to the Aussie spirit. Contact is made with the star Ross 128, where Australia's pilots fly newly designed and highly advanced Reddy-Glowy-Doohicky-AntiMatter Ships, and subsequently make contact with the GTA & PVN. A firefight breaks out, and Australia is outraged, so they decide to take a trip back to Sol and complain at the front office.
Soon, Australia's forces reach Vasuda Prime, they don't really know where they are, or how to speak the language, so they do what everyone does when trying to communicate with a foreigner, they yell REALLY loud. Unfortunately, someone mistakes the Prime Minister of the Fleet yelling "DIIIIIREEEECTIOOOONS!!!" for "Fire the Hyper-Flux-Photon-Capacitor-Doohickey-Doom-Cannons", and as such the planet is decimated.
When the Australian Armada FINALLY reaches Sol, they try to remember why they wanted to go there in the first place, and decide it wasn't really that important. Unfortunately, their lead ship, the SuperDestroyer Sydney runs out of Coke Syrup, the plentiful Fuel used in this new day and age, right in the middle of the Delta-Surpentis/Sol Jump node, and as such the entire crew abandon and scuttle her, thinking it as a better option than walking the 600 odd Light Years to the nearest Service Station that takes American Express...
And such is the grand story of the Australian Nation, the little big country that tried to but couldn't...:eek2:
-
But seriously, i doubt that the Human Race will get much past the 2020's, i mean, look at the current world climate, and look at our history! I doubt even the EARTH will be here in 2335, let alone the Human Race!
-
Mefustae, we could never blow up the earth, no matter how hard we try.
-
Just think about that for a second. As our technology currently stands, we could burn all life off the face of the planet and render it uninhabitable using only a third of current Nuclear Stockpiles. Now, when you consider that our technological advancement is speeding up, we're talking about the development of Weapons of mass MASS Destruction by the end of the 21st Century. Sure, they may not be capable of blowing up the Planet completely, but they would likely be able to take out a sizable chunk...
-
...no, to blow up the earth we would need about 50 quadrillion megatons of TNT (in order to get most of the mass to escape velocity.) The most powerful weapon ever detonated was 58 megatons. We would need a quadrillion (1,000,000,000,000,000) of them. to take out a sizable chunk, let's say, 5% of earth, we would need 20 trillion.
-
Okay, so the possibility of Earth being physically destroyed is just about nil this side of 2200, but still, you can't argue with the fact that we currently have enough Nuclear Arms to destroy all LIFE on Earth three times over, which is about as bad as total planetary demolition. And i still stand by my theory that we'll do exactly that by 2050...
...and hey, i just thought, Anti-Matter! Once we manage to refine it to be an unstoppable method of killing, as we have every single other object on the planet, we'll be one step closer to reaching that magical number, 50 quadrillion megatons...
-
antimatter costs $62.5 trillion a gram to make. one gram of antimatter = only a few times more boom than hiroshima.
-
Yes, but we're talking about the future of Humanity here! Think about how expensive the initial Atomic Bomb was, and to what lengths people would go to to develop the technology! At the end of WWII, Stalin forced his Generals to change the plan of the Berlin Assault so as to capture the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute and the precious Uranium that lay within, thereby costing the lives of thousands more than would have been neccessary. As such, you can see the lengths humanity will go to for power, and there is no more a destructive power than the power of Anti-Matter, well, at least that i can think of off the top of my head :doubt:
-
but where are we gonna keep a billion tons of antimatter?
-
...out back?
-
you mean in the shed?
-
Why are we even TALKING about blowing up the Earth? The real world isn't like science fiction: it's not like we're ever going to get out of this system, mine neutron stars, use black holes for power generation, etc.
Even a pile of antimatter could not destroy our planet. You'd have to somehow evenly spread, what, thousands of tons of antimatter throughout the core, matched exactly 1/1 with the matter particles, and bring them into contact simulataneously. Why bother? We can kill all the PEOPLE already! :)
-
:wtf: I was talking about Freespace's Earth in 2335, not the real one. Seriously, the real Earth in 2335 will propably be a polluted and radiated dump with people living in underground domes to protect them from the deadly UV-radiation, while jellyfish-like alien beings have invaded the surface, looking for humans to eat and...umm...yeah. :nervous:

 Good stuff.
-
Thats awesome!
-
 Wow, that guy has really thought this out.
-
Heh.. I like it...
Things that will not destroy the Earth:
*Gay marriage.
-
Arguably he's wrong about that, since he does not leave out the possiblity of God existing and having the ability to destroy the Earth.
Of course that's dependant on A: God existing, B: God caring, C: God caring in the way that those opposed to gay marriage say he would care, and D: God caring in that way enough to destroy the world.
Feasiblity...0/10? Less? There's the Sodom/Gomarrah precendent of "one innocent man", after all, and there has got to be at least one of us 6+ billion who's innocent.
-
Gay marriage is already legal in The Netherlands.
Earth still exists.
Q.E.D.
-
It would be cool if someone could prove that 1=0...
Or would it? :wtf:
-
I've seen that done (or something close to it).
I've definately seen proof that 2=3 :D
-
If 2=3, then 0=1, if you subtract 2 from both sides of the equation.
In other news: buh? Somebody must've been having something good to be proving 2=3.....

Yup, albeit AFAIK only a few individual atoms have been created (anti-hydrogen, I believe is one of them). EDIT; at a time. I'm not sure if they are actually stored, or (I think it's this) just pop in and out of existance in the particle accelerator.
-
I don't know if any of you are familiar with anime, but maybe it'll be like Cowboy Bebop: Earth constantly pelted by pieces of the moon because humans screwed up and blew off a chunk. Something like this could actually happen. There has been talk of mining the moon in the future because it is rich in titanium.
-
This is what confuses me. According to the writer, if 1=0, then whatever exists cannot exist. But logically, the reverse must also be true. If 0=1, then whatever cannot exist in the past, present or future all comes into existance simultaneously... :wtf:

Well someone throw some links about anitmatter in here sometime. Im too lazy to look it up, onmy 56k.
Edit: Ok um.. earth. OUR earth:
Same as nowadays. There would have been more wars, larger scale, WW3 by then. Thigns smaler, more accurate. More beaches due to global warming, which they will try to solve many times and fail each one. Maby oneday they'd get it right. More ****ed up experiments with governemnts. Smaller, more of the world would be a 2nd world country or so, less 3rd world countires.
More americans get greedy, more large areas of starving tribers..
FS2 earth, yeah, someday a sort of courasont, in star warz (Sp?) but with lakes and ****, hehe. Solar system, all in the Sol system, even pluto would be colonized and experimeted with. I think, dispite the main beleif of the majority, there will be no sort of seperate marz gov, or moon\marz rebellion or any of that ****. The top gov would take it back, hands down.
The "World Corut" idea is a great one, and i support that theory.

Note that claiming to be too lazy to get information is the quickest way to get me to delete your post, ad any relevant followups. :p
