Title: Anyone know how to take screencaps of movies?
Post by: TrashMan on April 27, 2005, 08:28:46 am
So I have one of my favorite TV series on my Pc in .mpg format and I want ot make a few shots of some of the parts, but Printscreen doesn't work (everything is shown except the Winamp window where the episode should play...actually it is pitch black).

I recall trying Hypersnap DX but it didn't work either (I may have set the settings wrong?)

Can anyone help?

What program are you using to play the movie in?

Most players have a screenshot function built in. Just hunt around in the options.

Try something other than Windows Media Player.

Fraps (http://www.fraps.com) should work if nothing else does.

Hypersnap does work. I´ve done it. Just open Hypersnap, then play the movie. When you reach a point you wich to take a screenshot, press F12.

And if you have none of those here's a little trick.

Open any movie in one player. Then open the movie you want in the second. Press printscreen.

The hardware overlay is busy with the first movie leaving the software to handle the one you want to take the picture of :D

Or just do it right, and temporarily disable hardware acceleration.

RIght click your desktop, click properties. Somewhere you'll find the Hardware Acceleration slider. Move the bar all the way down to None. Take screenshot, and restore...

EDIT: Damn, Zylon wins...

Or don't do it like a n00bar pussy at all and download Virtual Dub (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdub/VirtualDub-1.5.10.zip?download) - Open your file, mark the in/out selection of frame(s), and extract the frames that you want already converted to .tga or .bmp

I so understand how you're feeling.

At least we are blessed with the fact that this forum (and a lot of other "respectable" forums) doesn't support them.

I have an ATI vid card... I just open ATIi file player and hit the screenshot icon... I also made my teaser trailer with it but the frames rates suck and recording off my vcr sucks a$$!!!

Escaflowne.. cool... Couldn't get into it though.

Doesn't always work, particularly with .ogm files.  I've gotten the two-player trick to work when disabled hardware support failed me.

Are you suggesting that OGM puts magic bytes in the frame buffer that are immune to capture? :doubt:

lol.

What do you guys have against pic avatars?

And I find it kind of hypocrytical Setekh, considering all admins have a custom avatar. :p

Help, help, we're being oppressed! ;)

Avatars can be fine. They're useful for rapidly identifying posters. However, the overwhelming population of idiots on the internet feel compelled to select garish, oversized, animated abominations as their avatars.

Image sigs are flat-out inexcusable though. Those who use them seem earnestly convinced that everybody wants to see the exact same (usually stupid) image over and over and over every time they post. And it's always a LARGE image. Usually larger than the body of their post.

The type of posters who lust after image sigs, when denied them, tend to compensate by creating oversized, garish TEXT sigs. Scroll to the top of this thread for a prime example.

If people want to add a lasting impression to their posts, they should try working on the sentence structure and grammar in their paragraphs.

ERm... You do know the reason I'm making a sing pic? no? Well then..
On another forum, where avatars are supposed to be enabled, they don't seem to be working.. Weather becouse of the lazyness of admins or something, only half the people there have avatars..

Since I couldn't get the avatar to work, I made a sig pic...and it's only 40kb so and far smaller than most sig pics..

So chill.......Dude...

@Getter Robo G -
Best anime...EVAR....
The movie version is masterfully drawn, but the story is a series-wanabe which is impossible to fit into a short movie....so it sucks..
