Fanfilms are a bizarre creatures.
We all know the horrors and the WAFF fanfiction may bring into our lives, but fanfilms most of the time fall short on living up to the original.
However with the recent take Lucas took on his own universe, some of us SW fans, have doubts whether it was a good idea to let him do so.
It's like watching spectacular, high budget fanfiction gone wrong...the technology seems to have claimed the films and cast the actual story and drama into the darkness.
A darkness with no money and lot of enthusiasm - and fanatics who work diligently to put something worthwhile down on the table.
Even if the results are a bit amateurish, there's just a fickle in the whole project that makes your heart pump just like when we first set foot on the Ebon Hawk a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

So anyone heard of it so far?

I'm d/ling the trailer right now.
Looks good
-
Actually, yes, it looks pretty promising, though I'm not sure about the Star Destroyer in one of the Screenshots, it looks pretty poorly matted, but I'll download the trailer and take a look :D
-
umm, I thought, tydirium was stolen from a imperial space station with the help of the Azzemien family?
-
And redmenance wins the prize for canon-friendly!
So really, this is still just like a bad fanfic made worse.
-
Wow, for a fan feature that's awesome.
For a Star Wars movie, it blows chunks.
I'd rather have Lucas' take on it until something more coherent than this is done.
-
It does look halfway decent for fanfic and whatever....
-
Not bad, but my own observations were
1 : People waving guns around with Lasers flying out of them, It seemed like no-one was aiming, and they were going off at any old time, bad editing/sfx in that department.
2 : The star Destroyer from the second trailer really does look like a poor cut & paste from Photoshop.
3 : This can't really be helped, but people were way too self concious when interacting with machines 'Look Mom! I'm in an X-wing!'
That said, an excellent effort, despite.

To be fair, isn't that spot on, then?
-
LOL Well, at least Industrial L&M waited till the gun had actually stopped moving before animating in a shot, these sort of go off mid-wave while the person is actually looking in a completely different direction. But then ILM have a lot more expertise, cash and experience to call on.
Edit : And the trailers are worth watching nonetheless, theres a mixture of some bloody good acting and some really hammy stuff, and I don't think they should have included the Emperor, I thought this was 4 years after he died, but still excellent work.
-
no, four years after the destruction of the first death star. This occurs somewhere between Han Solos rescue and the attack on the second death star.

Was Ace Azzameen flying the Millenuim Falcon during the Battle of Endor? No. There is the answer for you. However, Rogue Squadron was involved.
-
umm no he wasn't but there was a rebel in the back behind the sullastan.
-
Do you think that happens to be Ace Azzameen?
-
Pretty impressive for a fanflik. They either need to rework their lighting setups or do some post color corrections, because it still has that "homemade" feel with the live action shots. Perhaps they should next time shoot with a 24p video camera. Looks like they are either shooting with a Canon XLR or a Sony pd170. Either way, shooting digitally will never capture the dramatic film look (including Episode II & III).
Look at the new Battlestar Galactica which uses a documentary motif (even with its CG). It looks much more vintage than the Episode II & III. Phantom Menace had hints of that vintage look in it's less CG'ed moments.
Much of the dogfight CG needs motion blur upped a notch and some extra layering with the explosions. (I saw some Artbeats stock explosions... KOOL! I love those)
-
no not really. But I thought it would be plausible since the azzemeans were experienced pilots especially with those types of craft. We also have seen a consistent involvement of the azzameens in the other games such as X-wing vs Tiefighter: BOP. It is the only way to really keep everything canon and consistent. But it is fanfiction so....they can do as they please.

Possibly. However, that is immaterial, as nothing in the movies contradicts XWA's version of events about the Tydirium, and so it remains canon.

Now all we need is a fanfic to explain how the 3000 African tribesmen with spears cheering at the end of ID4 actually managed to take out the Alien ship ;)
I'm thinking some kind of enormous human pyramid :D
-
ROFL
on a side note ID4 has got to be the most corniest movie ever.
-
Oh, but it was glorious when the alien popped out of its ship and gets punched in the face by Will Smith. "WELCOME TO EARTH."
-
It had Robert Loggia in it. Therefore, it kicks ass. :D

:nervous: I enjoyed that film and it ranks in my top 10 DVD's.....
-
ID4 is a comedy, that's why it's good. :p
-
I know I'm in the wrong universe, but this reminds me of Star Wreck... I wonder how those guys are going.
-
Whoa!!!... That one dude has MISSING TEETH!!!! As weird as that is... it sorta gives him character. :)
-
LOL I have missing teeth, but then, I'm from the UK and had a serious jaw injury when I was younger, and the UK dentists provide the absolute worst quality for price of any of the more 'developed' countries (and I'm talking private here, not NHS).
