The interior ministry said a wanted militant who was being pursued by police had detonated explosives in the city centre, killing himself.

****ing insane, they are attacking their own people now... the swedish newspapers are reporting that al-qaida terrorists are threathing to attack here in sweden too,  beacuse of some priest talked about prophet Mohammed and called him a deranged pedofile... i am a  musilm from bosnia and this is just too mutch...

Not really... the injured are mostly non-Egyptian: an Israeli couple, an Italian woman, a Swedish guy, and 3 Egyptians. Cairo may be a popular tourist location, but to get that kind of ratio would mean that the out-of-towners were the target IMO.

I don't think these guys have 'their own people' beyond the select group of loonies that subscribe to their narrow, bigoted world view.

NB: worth noting that attacking foreign tourists is still an attack upon Egypt as a whole; as the beeb report points out, it hurts the Egyptian economy.

Late 90's Islamic Fundamentalism (in all it's forms) essentially stated that anyone who wasn't following the highly orthodox form of Islam that group stood for was an enemy. They even ended up attacking each other on the same basis.

It's not new.

It's not as common as men, true, but it's gone beyond the phase of "What?!??! A female suicide bomber??!?!!!??" a long time ago. Not common, not uncommon.
