Title: Video Card Problem
Post by: DeepSpace9er on May 05, 2005, 07:11:19 am
I recently upgraded my video card from a GeForce FX 5200 to a GeForce 6600 OC GT. I downloaded the latest drivers, but as of yet have not played freespace 2. The other day i tried it out, and there was a flickering about 3/4 up the screen. THe mouse would disappear when it went into it and i couldnt click anything in it. Has anyone else had any issues like this and if so have any suggestions to fix it?

ALso for the record my system specs are:

2.8ghz p4 HT
1.5GB PC3200 DDR
GeForce 6600 OC GT
Audigy 2
Win XP Pro

Did you uninstall the previous driver set before applying the new drivers?  Also, are you using nVidia Refrence drivers or drivers specific to your card?
Another thing to try is grabbing Driver Cleaner Pro from http://www.driverheaven.net and following the instructions for a clean driver install.

somthing similar hapened to me once when itried to play an older game after upgrading nvidia videocard drivers. The way i fixed it was by lowering the refresh rate abit.

I have the same problem in Direct3D as well. Try using OpenGL, or alt-tabbing out of Freespace and then alt-tabbing back in.

My attempt to ugrade ATI drivers, while i forgot to uninstall earlier version, for my Radeon 9600 Pro resulted in a complete windows reinstallation (safe mode - restore - repair with Installation CDs - none of these worked)... I was even forced to use the famous command format c: to clear all the affected files.

So consider yourself lucky.
