Title: Problem with 1.2 patch
Post by: Beorne on May 06, 2005, 12:39:10 pm
I downloaded and installed HOTU FS2 then I successfully installed the all_fs2_vp_files.zip I downloaded with Emule.
The game runs perfectly, but I can't install the 1.2 pach, neither via the on line update nor using the fs21x-12.exe file. It tells me "old file not found".
Where could I find a good copy of the freespace.exe file?
Thank you

You'll wanna read Karajorma's FAQ on this.  Apparently there's some kind of Crack-pack that you'll need to get it up to 1.2.

The problem is that the HotU build uses a cracked no-CD exe. The installer obviously expects to find the official exe and so refuses to work.

Nix is correct about the solution. Click the link below and check the downloads section. (you might want to check out the HotU page too although it is a little old).

or, d/l the infamous Freespace Zone ISO's (http://www.freespacezone.com), burn them to disc, install it, and you don't even need a patch. it's alread 1.2 :D

That's rather interesting. I didn't know that the CDs were already 1.2. That would require a reasonable amount of effort so I'm somewhat surprised that anyone bothered rather than simply sticking the patch on the CD too.
