Title: Techroom-Missions
Post by: Starman01 on May 13, 2005, 11:56:43 am
Hi,

I have a question regarding missions and the campaign-file, and I think this here is the right place to ask :)

In our prologue we have a small campaign that consists only of a few missions. Besides these main-missions, we have also a few additional single-missions (some sort of simulator).

Now the question :

I want the single-missions to show up in the techroom/mission section only after the main-campaign/campaign-file is complete, and not from the start on.

Is this possible at all, maybe with the campaign-file and some "allow techroom SEXP" ?

Thanks for the help :)

I don't think it's possible.

You could make the final mission of the campaign have a choice of what button to press, and what button you press leasds onto the next sim misson.  Goober made an extremely complex Campaign Tree which could probably be adapted to your needs.

Don't think it's possible.

If campaign or player persistant variables can be used in the tech room (I really don't think they can but I've never actually tested it) I can think of a rather ugly hack that would allow the player to select the mission but not play it but that's no where near perfect.

Just release the missions as an add-on pack a few days later :D

That maybe the best solution then, I guess. Some sort of a small bonus after 30 days :D

Or keep the tech-room missions in a passworded folder and give the password in the reccomendations of the final campaign mission.

Or just tell players to play the missions after the campaign is complete.

I mean, it's only themselves that they're cheating, isn't it?

That makes little sense to me. Why not simply enclose those missions to the main campaign?

At any rate, anybody who knows a very minimal amount of knowledge for FRED and VP extracting can get the missions 'for free'.

Even if this would be the final solution, people would simply tell each other that password.

Blaise Russel makes sense. We are intelligent people, if we are told not to play the missions before completing the campaign, we take responsibility that those missions contain spoilers.

I think adding them into the campaign-file is a bad idea.

Those are just some sort of simulator missions, and have no direct connection to the campaign. It would suck if the campaign ends, the cutscene plays, and suddenly you into some sort of chained simulator-missions.

I guess we will stick to the seperate release part.

On second thoughts Blaise is Right, if idiots want to play the Sim mission before the campaign is finished then that's their problem.

Do you have access to the Project Collaboration forum in the SCP forum? You can post a request there, if you want.

I have access, yes. But our request-list is already waaay to long :D  So we have to stick to the important things, and this isn't one IMO :(

Nevertheless, thanks for your comments guys
