we all knew it was coming, but now it's official AND coming out for the XB360... aparrently timed to coincide with the release of sony's PS3.. :p
looks like Gates has slapped Sony across the face with a glove, and went for the ol' pistols at dawn routine ;)

I don't think this is going to affect Sony as much as they think it will. They're putting all their eggs in one basket, so far it has paid off though.
Halo is the only reason why the Xbox is still around. Halo was originally going to be released for each console, but when Microsoft bought out Bungie, it became an "Xbox exclusive." They had no mascot/flasgship game, so they had to buy one instead of creating their own. Halo is good, but it's not revolutionary, and Sony and Nintendo probably have something up their sleeves as well.

Albiet, I do see one problem with this strategy, this gives the people at bungie like, maybe a year and a half to do Halo 3? Either they have already been working at it for a while now, or it's not going to be the best quality... :( I don't want Bungie to rush it.

I'm somewhat upset that I'll have to buy a new console just to finish this series... I like Halo. It's fun. (Fun != Revolutionary, Revolutionary != Fun) And I don't really want to buy a new console. just yet.
Only if the XB360 can play XB1 games. So I can get my XB to run linux, and use it as a portable PC for school... >.>

The hardware looks soooo good...
But I'm betting it will be backwards compatible because the Bungie team is pushing for it citing the fact that they want fans to be able to play the Halo trilogy on one console.

however, it was Halo 2 AND Xbox live that really sold the console..

Seriously, I agree though. Without backwards compatability, I would have some severe doubts about rushing forward. I'm not going to touch the 360 for at least 18 months anyway - wait for that price to drop.

The only console I ever bought when it first came out was the N64 back in 96 i think. Of course I'm having a hard time holding back on the PSP.:D

Oh, and I almost forgot to say in regard to Halo 3: booyah! :) Though of course we knew... still, it's nice to be confirmed. Interestingly, there's no news about it on Bungie.net.

If there's a rushed ending for Halo 3 just like Halo 2, that'll be pretty lame. :p

Right, sorry, my bad. I meant to say... "Yay! We have... ummm... you know... Halo 4 through to 600 to look forward to, without any resolution of the plot! Awesome!!"

Halo 2's ending was deliberate.
Still nothing from bungie yet, I wouldn't tatoo it on your arm...

At last! I've been waiting since Halo 2 to find out what happens to Earth since, at the end, there seems to be a major ass battle going on in Earth's orbit.
Though am not happy about having to rush out and buy an Xbox 360 just to play it. I'll buy it right away if I find I can play my old Xbox games on it.

Bah! PS3 will have Metal Gear Solid 4 and it will eat Master Chiefs for lunch.

Who cares about Halo 3, I just want to see Halo 2 on PC :p

They should do Halo 2 and Halo 3 on PC.
I'm betting the Halo 2 engine will be used in Halo 3 so the only graphically improvement will come with better load times, level of detail, and texture sizes... All of which would help a lot to improve the look of the game. Realistically though, unless they build a new engine, Halo 3 will NOT be the best looking game on the 360 ( :( ).

They might just upgrade the Halo2 engine. I'd imagine they wouldn't be as willing to start over from square one again.
Look what the SCP has done in the past few years. Imagine what a team of full time programmers can do to upgrade the engine in a few years.
Oh and I'm fairly certain the 360 will be backwards compatable. Especially after seeing Halo2 being used on it during demo's etc.

Halo 2's engine can be built onto to produce halo3, heck, it wouldn't take much to bring the engine up to XB360 spec, i'd imagine there would be more time to make models, textures, and maps.. not to mention cutscenes, etc..

Exactly.
I'm hoping for bots in multiplayer. Or an alternate mode. Co-op over live. Maybe a hold the lines game where you have to hold off the swarming bots from a building.
Oh and the Chief dies.

:yes: Yes, then there's no way they can make a fourth! It's only supposed to be a trilogy anyway. Seriously though, it would be a great way to end the series.

Well in the books there are more Spartans. But no word of that in the games.
I wouldn't mind a few other games based in the Halo universe perhaps. But I think an end to the Halo saga will be sadly appreciated. :)

I really want bots, though I have a feeling Bungie is fairly set in their ways - they were quite vehement about the exclusion of them in 1 and 2, so I'm not going to keep my hopes up for 3. I'd like co-op over system link, though... that would rock.

I have a horrible feeling I'm going to get that damn MS money making box just to play Halo 3-and not to see what happens to Master Chief and the human race. Oh no, they've screwed me over one too many times, I'm more intrested in the Arbiter and how is race of alien Master Chiefs are doing...no bais at all.
