Truth be told I was somewhat disappointed with the frame-rates on some of the E3 tech demos, however, thiis little quote cheered me up a bit.
Peter Moore: The games we showed were working off alpha test kits using a PC graphics ship, not the actual graphics chip from our system. The games are running at about 30% of their actual capability. Our dev kits are still only in the alpha stage, and we have not delivered beta kits yet. The final kits will ship to developers in July.
In an unrelated note:
Damnit! Something tells me I'm going to get all three consoles this time around...
-
I'm surprised they've not distributed full kits this late into development (it's what, 4 or 5 months till the planned release?); albeit I know the dev kits were suppossedly capped at about 2/3 of the xbox360 power, I'm surprised they don't have the final hardware done yet for the demos.
-
This may be due to the fact that (according to an interview with Ballmer) the console hardware and even design may be subject to modification. This was specifically referring to the type of disc drive which "hasn't been announced." It's possible that they will stick either a blue-ray or hd-dvd drive in the Xbox 360.

*chuckle* If you read the Searching for X-box article at Anandtech, you'll see they discovered that a fair number of the playable demos weren't running on Xbox360's at all, but on power macs.
How strange. Microsoft and Sony both out pimping their new hardware, and the software they're showing isn't running on it half the time.
-
Um... the powermacs were the Dev Kits... The Alpha versions (aka 30% power) of the Xbox360 stuck inside a Powermac G5 case...
-
Hmmm, well that's a good sign. Still, the PS3 blows it out of the water numerically.
-
In pure PROCESSING power, yes. However, the Xbox360 seems to have a better balance between CPU and GPU power. I expect the graphics on both consoles to be very similar.
I'm still not very confident about Sony considering their display of pre-rendered stuff.
But if Killzone 2 ever DOES look that good... :D
-
Oh... another Xbox thread. What a surprise...
-
Oi! The last thread I started was about the PS3.
The next time I post something about consoles, it's going in a mega-thread.

Wasn't it about bashing the PS3 demos? Either that or the one saying the box was ugly?

it's somehow ironic that this time, the Sony console is larger than microsoft's offering in physical size.
-
This is probably an irrelevant part of the gameplay but important to me and probably somebody else. I honestly hate the PS2 controller style with the two analog sticks on the bottom. Xbox has put them in a natural hand position and makes it much easier to control and stich buttons. Just a side note, i know a very small part but there it is.

I think it is just a ploy to try and tell you how much better their console is. I guarantee it was not running at 30% capacity.

Since when have you become an expert?

*remembers Deepblue's fanboyism before... remember consequences on penguinbomb*
I knew this seemed familiar :p
No offence mate, the XBox 360 looks an amazing machine, you just sound exceptionally biased ;)
-
Don't get me wrong... I love all the consoles. However, currently I am extremely mad/disappointed with Sony, and unhappy about the limited backwards compatibility with the Xbox360. Currently, the Revolution is my console of choice for liking.
-
It's hard to tell, sometimes; every post you make lately seems to be hyping the xbox360 and, given the driv3r fiasco last year, I'm always very cynical of that.
-
I doubt the 30% bit. Adding two processors to a computer won't multiply the capabilities by 3.
-
Gotta consider more then that though. These dev kits were power mac based, and almost certainly running X850xts or 6800 Ultras. Two extra processors + a vastly improved video system - emulation overhead - OS overhead could very well equal a 3x increase.

While we're talking about consoles...
First:
An awesome all in=game trailer for Dark Sector:

Second:
An awesome CGI trailer for GR3. If Killzone can do it, why can't they:

If you want to compare it to actual in game stuff:
