Ok. some genius decided it was a good idea to go to a Model United Nations conference in the middle of exam time, and through a series of meetings in which I was not there, or not awake, I got shuffled of with being Jordans delegate for the disarmement committee. The whole thing is supposed to be a training on formal English, but you need a ****eload of information to be of any use.
Finding anything useful on Jordans military is a bloody hell, all I can get at is the CIA world factbook entry mirrored 20 times, or wikipedia mirrors that are a couple revisions behind.
Basicly, I need a few numbers. (Like how many planes, what type, pretty general stuff. An F16 will be an F16, nevermind what revision. I just need to know how many they've got.)
Any bright idea's?
Also, I'll take anything like a general picture of what kind of military it is. I know they're volunteer based instead of conscripts, but that's about it.

Jordan still has a military after we spanked them?...
-
As a monarchy, it's a right royal ***** to find reliable statistics on the jodranian military. the military branch doesn't even have a website, and the most recent report I could come up with had them with zero f-16s, looking into french mirage fighters.
-
I've got reports calling 17 F16's, and others saying 24. And nevermind the artillery....
Splinter: Apparently, yes.
-
Well, maybe I'm just a profiteering **** here, but from my viewpoint, you could probably claim they had 14 hercules-II and 3 caputred Maras and no one would be able to say they didn't.

not too sure if this may be of use to you...

Scroll down towards the end of the page in this one. Theres a table indicating the military statistics compared to other nations.

4 out of 6 are things I've seen already, but the http://meria.idc.ac.il/journal/2001/issue2/jv5n2a2.html link is going to help me, I think. The Marines link is new, too.
Thanks a lot.

Washington DC (AFP) Nov 25, 2004
The Pentagon is to sell 50 US-made air-to-air missiles to Jordan, along with supporting equipment, in a deal worth about 39 million dollars, despite objections from Israel. In a statement released Tuesday, the Defense Department said it had notified lawmakers of the intended sale of 50 AIM-120C Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM).
"The proposed sale will enhance the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a key regional partner who has proven to be a vital force for political stability and peace in the Middle East," the Pentagon statement said.
The Defense Department said Jordan needs the missiles to improve the capabilities of its F-16 jets and to work better with US forces.

Here's a good one

The army recognition thing is great, thanks. Now, if only it listed aircraft and smallarms too......

Read my first link. They talk about the Jordanian assualt rifle in there. As for the numbers, I say just wing it. I seriously doubt anyone else will be able to get as much info as you've got, or challenge the accuracy, unless their dad works for Janes or something.
-
I was hoping someone here had a Janes subscription, actually. As for the rifle, M4 for SF, but AK (I geuss) for everyone else?
EDIT: Just noticed that that thread as 3 pages, instead of one. I'll be of, reading.
So they're all using the Korean gun, or just the SF?

I don;t know why, but that comment really irked me.
You're not helping the Israelis = ****s stereotype.

You too, eh? Like Israel is a little ray of sunshine in the sandstorm off the middle east. :doubt:

Checked there already. They don't have an entry for Jordan, unless it's for the specific technologies which make up the military, which are mostly Western in any case.

Mmmm... sandstorms...

Since everyone else has been so helpful it's probably ok for me to ask why no one has made any boobies jokes yet!

If you don't have the info by now, you need a good anal cleansing.

I got some, but I'm still lacking definitive data on airplanes, because the .nl link above doesn't contain a straight list of numbers, and I have seen to much conflicting data from other sources to be sure.
-
Well they have to be F-16C's if they are firing AIM-120s...or effectively F-16C's which were retrofitted from A models (which had no BVR capability).
-
And that means exactly zilch to me. I'm not all wise about airforce stuff....

laugh all you want, but Google Queen Rania. She's the Jordanian Queen and definitely blows Thatcher out of the water. Those Arab monarch know how to pick 'em.
kasperl: trust me man, just wing it. If you can't find the info yourself, then what are the chances that someone else will be able to contradict you? AFAIK, they're flying mostly F-16s and a few Dassault Mirages.
-
You could always be like Bush and just pull facts about their military out of your ass. Say that they have 500 nuclear ICBM's while you're at it. ;)
-
I'm supposed to be for disarmement.
OTOH, I'm geussing that anything given to a country like Jordan has to be a POS anyway, so the F16's they're flying are probably quite shoddy.
-
Don't make that assumption. People in that part of the world bought a lot of top-of-the-line equipment after the first Gulf War. They have nice gear. Not necessarily good troops, but nice gear.
-
According to what I read/saw, the Jordan troops are well trained, but the equipment is the kind of junk that makes you sit down and cry.
-
I met a few Jordanians when I was in radar training, nice people...
I suspect you are right though, they will go to any country that offers the best training, but their equipment may be limited by treaty/embargos or whatever. They would *seem* to be very Moderate for an Arab State, but it's always hard to guess these things...
-
They are indeed quite moderate with most things, they do allow women in the army for example.
