Not a lot is known about the Shivans. Whenever one strikes a comment about the Shivans, that comment is argued or dissagreed with considerably.
So what really are Shivans?
Are they supposed to be the steriotypical bugs from all of those alien movies, or are they just some weird other creature.
Another thing I heard was that they were created in subspace (?).
Do they live on planets? How big is their empire?
Maybe V had some sketchboards or plans or information regarding the Shivans that they never released?
-
We don't know.
-
Anything you come up with or can argue for is both right and wrong.
-
There have been dozens of threads serving the same purpose.
And I welcome another one. :D

The Shivan's are friggin' scary, that's what.
-
all that we know for sure is:
1. they are cybernetic lifeforms
2. they are part of a much bigger problem
cause that's all :v: has told us outside of the game.

Someone get hired by V and steal info!!
-
Sadly V went out of business IIRc - so we may never know
But I know -
The Shivans are the immune system of space or subspace (not too sure). They are produced naturally in subspace, and are charged with keeping things cool in space. Occasionally a form of life appears that starts to take up a lot of area and causes death and pollution (as well as damage to space time, and other un-understandable phenomena)
When said attrocities to space occur the shivans appear, and purge said creatures from existance.
Ever wonder if the shivans and species 8472 were the same idea? Perhaps the people at V were thinking along the same lines as the ideas behind species 8472 when all of a sudden that voyager episode comes on and they all drop a load, and never know where to pick it back up at?
I don't know - just a thought

volition were bought by THQ. Hence there are/were problems over the license anyways, as it was owned by THQs rivals Interplay, meaning any FS sequel might not be/have been made by volition (given Interplays financial problems, it's possible Volition could buy the license, but it depends entirely upon THQ giving the go-ahead, which is unlikely so long as Generic Britney Spears/Wrestling game is selling).
I think V have basic - not sure how detailed - story 'bible' for Freespace still lying around, but they'd never release it. I'd imagine FS3 would have resolved the questions left from FS2.
-
resolved and brought up more hence paving the way for FS4.

Nope, but Chapter 2 Should be out by the end of the year at the latest, and some of the new stuff is fantastic.

read The Shivan Manifesto (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,22279.0.html)
about 30 pages of answers to all our questions. :D
-
Possible answers. The Shivan manifesto isn't any more canon than the Capella BBQ theory.
-
yeah, but it's still fun to read. :D
