Erm... Does anyone else find this odd?
[q]A re-enactment of the Battle of Trafalgar is not an opportunity for "French-bashing", says the Royal Navy.
Instead of the British taking on a French/Spanish fleet at next month's event to mark the battle's bicentenary a "red" force will take on a "blue".
Navy organisers fear visiting officials may be embarrassed at seeing their side beaten, The Sunday Times reported. [/q]
Why do I sense the hands of europhiles at play?
-
:wtf:
-
Hey, get down from there!
-
*throws stones at Aldo's perch*
-
Okay, that has gone too far...are we do PC now that we can't even reenact a historical battle without changing it so the losers don't feel bad?
The French/Spanish lost that battle. It's history. Dear God in Heaven save us from the PC cretins who would rewrite history so that nobody was ever effected negatively...
-
Pearl Harbor was a love story in Japan...
-
So when I "re-enact" the Blitzkrieg, I can't bash Europe? damn.
-
It's not called the Blitzkrieg anymore, it's now the 'Poland incident'...
-
Poland? I always though the Blitzkrieg ended here:
-
It ended there, yes.
But it began (in Brittain's eyes) at Poland. No?
-
I wouldn't call it the Poland Incident once Germany started going West. Perhaps we could call it "Hitler's Sneeze"
-
That is acceptable. It shall be done.
-
God Knows if I had the money I would stage my own re-enactment, and have the French owned completely, without a Single British loss, just to annoy the PC Brigade.
-
"ve ver invited! eet vas a party!"
-
Hehe Bobbaou :p
Seriously though, PC freaks need to be strung up by their ankles so that they can actually get some blood flow to their brains. What's next: "Oh, the Holocaust wasn't genocide, it was a 'racial incident.'" **** like this makes me sick.

Your forgot Poland.
-
Just like the Soviets were invited into Eastern Europe, right?
-
The Russians liberated eastern europe in WW2, didn't you hear?
-
...well that's just pathetic.
-
Well, yeah...after breaking promises right and left...

World war 2 was started when the green team and the red team attacked the blue team.

The Blitzkrieg is the name of a strategy, not a particular invasion or battle.

The Blair side clouds everything.
-
Political Correctness started a long time before Blair, and while some of it is to the good, denying History is absolute bollards - stupid, stupid, people...:hopping:
-
Yes but it's exploded in terms of foreign issues thanks to Blair's regime.
-
This isn't just a British problem it's one for every democracy in the world, theyre just tryin to damn hard to satisfy everyone. They need to understand you cant satisfy all of the people all of the time and thats a fact of life.
-
theyre just tryin to damn hard to satisfy everyone.
Is that REALLY such a bad thing in a democratic society?
They need to understand you cant satisfy all of the people all of the time and thats a fact of life.
They do. They are simply trying to satisfy as many people as possible. As democratically elected officials, that is what they are supposed to do, right (at least in theory)?

It is a statistical impossiblity to please a majority of a given population for any significant length of time. The only way to win is to do what needs to be done, whether it's politically advantageous or not. Much of Western Government has lost this knowledge.

I think Dilbert put it best.
"You can't please everyone."
"I think I speak for everyone when I say 'Fool, you'd better please us or we'll crush you!' "

Does the US Navy really think that there is't a French battle re-enactment society, and that they probably re-enact their victories of the UK?
Ah well, PC will kill us all in the end :)

There is not :doubt: What's the use in re-enacting stupid old battles just because you've won them? Ah sure, we could celebrate Marignan or Austerlitz, but what's the point, besides satisfying some stupid ego?
Typically british, if you pardon me :p
-
We produced Blair. You produced Chirac. I like neither but let's be honest you owe the world an apology more than us :p.

One event sponsor said: "Surely 200 years on we can afford to gloat a bit."
"Not even the French can try and get snooty about this."

One of the guys here is a re-enactor - English Civil War mainly - he said the interest in France and Germany is HUGE - about 10x what it is in the UK.. and Napoleon is the one big hero, nevermind that he lost in the end, there were enough 'wins' to keep them happy...
On the subject of re-enactors:
The Batley Townswomen's Guild set to re-enact the battle of Pearl Harbor.

I prefer Chirac to Blair :p ( plus blair' is the short of an insult in french, so all the better :p )

That's bull. Nothing more to add to that :p ( sure we like Napoleon, but some before have done better than him, for exemple, making Britain French for 200 years :D -besides DeGaule is the most popular around here, not Napoleon ).

[q]I prefer Chirac to Blair [/q]
I thought frenchmen's ideals stood for libery, quality and freedom? :p I wouldn't put Chirac on the winning side of a debate about that.

Egality, not quality :p (quality sounds fascist too ~~ )
I'm not a socialist. Socialism brought us unemployement, debts and ****, and now they want to blame it on Chirac. I don't like Chirac much, mind you, but better off with him than the socialists like Jospin or Fabius. We've had some improvements with him, basically coz he took up Rafarin as a prime minister, and that poor guy is being used to do all the nasty job, so Chirac is about alright. But his popularity is still dropping, obviously. Rule 1 is that pleasing the people -> opposite of efficient running of a country. And French have way too many social aids and ****, they think everything is for granted, they go on strikes whenever there's no paper in the toilets, etc. Bah, I'm pretty sure our next president's gonna be Sarkozy, and he's gonna do some cleaning up, I hope.
So yeah, I prefer Chirac to that fake leftist that is Blair, who try mild right wing politics while being shy about it and, well, that just makes no sense. And you can't deny the fact that in the end, Chirac was bloody right to say "Us going to Irak? No way, go on your own!" :p

Britain was never French. The Normans were vikings who kicked the **** out of the original French people in Normandy and settled there. :p
In fact apart from the vikings just about every invasion force that ever landed in Britain was the result of the French failing to put up a good enough fight :p
-
The Normans only conquered England, not Britain, anyways.
The Anglo-Norman kings also declared war on France in the 100 years war after the French king seized their Normandy, etc, land (the Normans - the Kings of England - controlled half of France by then).
I think it's fair to say they weren't 'French' in the conventional sense, nor did they conquer Britain.
