Still an early WIP, but I'm liking the general shape so far.
GV? Neferotep. A new warship for the Vasudan navy, this vessel is somewhat smaller than a Typhon or Hatshepsut, but considerably larger than a corvette. It carries greater firepower than a Sobek, and has a hangar for fighters and attack craft. It is also much faster than destroyers, and is designed to deliver powerful strikes against all types of target.

As always, thoughts, impressions, suggestions are welcome. :)

Give us a textured image and we will talk...
-
I can't texture....... :nervous:
And there'd be no point at the moment, because there're lots of things still to add.
-
Ok, then here is my opinion:
Looks quite good, a wing pointing upwards would make it a little better. Also, the hangar seems strange. Rounden it a bit more.
-
I like it, looks like a cruiser though.
-
It's a big cruiser. :nervous:
-
A like the shape, but I agree that it looks a bit smaller than 1.6km; it's the lack of variation in the shape, IMO ships made of a single large section(or set) with a generally unbroken shape tend to look smaller.
Albeit, seeing as it is a WIP, I'm assuming you'll be adding some form of detail to the upper 'shell' in particular for exactly that purpose :)
Reminds me of a fighter I made ages & ages ago, for some reason.

GVCa?

If the Hatshepsut is a Hoover, than that's the Dust-Busterâ„¢ of doom! :p
I love the hull as a WIP, hate the description. That hanger looks much smaller than that of a Hatshepsut, and I don't see how, with half the length devoted to that little tail, that the thing would have room for more/bigger reactors. A little less uber, a little more practical, and you've got a winner. It looks like a large corvette+fighterbay, which is cool, but not 1.6km large.
Random tip: scale it so that the size of the launch tubes match those on the Hatshepsut.
-
I'd think about...half the size of Hapshepsut.
-
i kinda like it. the underside is nice but the upper surface needs some variation. it might be as simple as throwing a couple parabolic indentations into either side of the hull. it would make a good place to mount a beam turrent. (damn i love that smiley).

It's not really meant to be "uber" as such, but point taken. It's supposed to be halfway between a corvette and a destroyer. The fighterbay is meant to be small, and it'd have less armour than a destroyer ( perhaps ~90,000 hp compared to the Hatshepsut's 120k). Thanks for your feedback. :)

Yeah, I want to break it up by putting a few little extrusions on it, or maybe some trenches or something. The front "shell" I'm happy with in terms of the shape, but the back one is crap. I wanted to put a conning tower or a fin on it, but everything I tried looked awful. I also want to put a "trailing" fin on it, either from the bottom of the keel or from the fighterbay bulge....
kietotheworld: It's not a carrier ;)

It is rather bland at the moment, I agree. I need to experiment a bit and see what looks good. I'm rather more worried about the rear "shell" as it is, but we'll see. As for beam turrent s (:D), they'll probably go on the "chin", where the keel comes up to the bow, and on each side of the central hull. I may give it a couple of torpedo tubes, though.... :drevil:
The final size may change, but it should end up between 1000 and 1600 metres. I've changed the description slightly to fit.

Ok... after much deliberation, I have concluded that I like it so far. ;)
Now..... if this were me, and my model... well.... look:
(But this isn't my model, so I can't force this on you. ;))

It might be worth (if you don't have it already) tracking down the 'secret' cutscene from silent threat with the hi-poly Typhon. It's not the best view of the T (as ithe camera is focusing on a fighter and the typhon shadowed), but there's a lot of details there useful for inspiration.

looks like a rebel alliance medium transport. looks good though.

Think there's any chance of us getting out hands on those models? :blah:
-
i like this ship: the fish shape, the tail, and the Fighter Bays. i think i'll call it an Escort Destroyer.
-
I was thinking of Pocket Destroyer... of course this differs from the role of the Graff Spee pocket destroyer from WWII.
-
Hmm. I like. Good, simple, clean lines. the essence of Vassy design.
-
if you plan on using torpedo tubes id suijest having them potrude from the hull. freespace refuses to launch the torp straight out of the tube and perfers they come out at an angle. id like them to follow the normal before seeking out a target (coders?). the best bet is putting them on a multipart turret. anyway the models good.

Oooh. Any ideas where I might find that? I don't have any of the ST secret stuff.

Thanks - glad you like it! Your idea for the back shell part is excellent - I might do something like that.
Neo_hermes, Trivial Psychic, Black Wolf: Cheers - the Graf Spee was part of my inspiration, actually. Corvettes carry out pretty much the same role, but this is supposed to be a more versatile ship, as it has some carrier function. Thanks for your support. :)
Nuke: Ah, I suspected that might happen. I'll have to think about it.

Well, the front drawing is VERY inspiring :D
Seriously now, from I gather it has 2 fins in the back? I think a center one would fit better with the design... my 2 cents

no. more like GVHC (Galactic Vasudan Headz Collector. :D)

Change your view to Smooth and Auto Smooth the model and it'll look alot better. Looks a little faceted at the mo.
-
Looking good, Pyro. :)
My one main suggestion is to give it an overall arching shape. As it stands right now, if we were to imagine a spine inside this fish-creature of yours, it would be straight as a rod. If you were to apply a simple warp modifier to give it a subtle arch to its overall shape, it'd be even better than it is now. :)

I think kara posted an avi conversion of it a while back, but I can't seem to find it.

Cheers, Raa
I just stumbled across kara's post as well, actually - he put headz and the terran vs vasudan fight in as well. Good stuff! That high-poly Typhon is pretty impressive...
Sesq: Thanks for the feedback! I'll have a play with it when I get back from work. :)

I've got them up too, in various places on the forum. (Granted, I got them from Kara, though)
-
There's an even higher detail Typhon, but its only a side shot static image. I can't remember which one exactly, but if you bought either the FS1+ST pack or just FS1, you can see it as part of the box art. I also remember it being on an FS1 website run by :v:. There was significantly more details on it.
-
OT:
is it just me, or was that vassy fighter just blatted from the sky by a shivan with its bare hands?
that's a new one to me.....when did this cutscene occur again?
-
wasn't actually a cutscene, was in a "secret" directory on the ST CDs
-
"supersecret" to be more exact. it's too bad that wasn't made into a cutscene, it would have been very dramatic. :D
-
looks like he punched right through the cockpit, thus explosing the poor vasudan to the vaccume of space :D
so how many vids were there? i got the headz vids and this one, must complete collection.

hehe that terran got his ass kicked :D

hehe, excellent. Headz vids, anyone?
