Yea...but it's Hilary freaking Clinton.
I dunno, I'd have tp see what her stances are before I would vote either way.

Let it come. That way, at least people might finally realize that something is  very rotten in the state of Denmark.

I would rather have satan than hillary. If we're gonna have a women president, i doubt it will be hillary.

As I understand it, a lot of the Clinton poolicies came from Hillary anyway, so you could certainly do worse.

That said, if the dems are smart, they'll try for another clintonesque figure (ie. White, Southern male) so that democrat voters'll vote for him and republican voters wont just dismiss the candidate outright.

Also someone who publically acknowledges their faith, which would count for a lot for the southern states, and the religious people who think bush is nuts, but would rather have someone godly than a heathen in power

She is a moron for one.

Remember the Health Care bill she tried to have passed as first lady. And instead of the media castrating her they were like well atleast she cares.

Second, she is the most insincere person. She personifys everything that a politician is. Most recently she is using all this God talk to kiss ass with christian moderates. It is just disturbing.

She flipflops on issues, to make her self more attractive to moderate voters. ie abortion.

She refered to someone as a ****ing jew.

She has as much of a sordid past as her husband.

She is a carpetbagger. Meaning she never lived in NY before actually running for senate.

I've heard a lot about people liking Hilary Clinton.

I've not heard a single ounce about anything she's done - outside of history books, after Clinton's presidency. (excluding redmenace's post above)

Most of the people seem to focus on the fact that she is female, so we'd have a woman president - it's about as sexist as saying she's female, so she shouldn't be president. I would rather vote for someone based on their policies rather than whether or not they have a penis.

So basically, she's a politician.

Though aside from being a neolib, I also find her personally unpleasant.

Well yes, a politician which is my base case for not liking her. There are politicians, then there are politicians that really lay it thick.

Not to mention that it's ironic to talk about electing Hilary, so that the Bushes won't be elected again and establish some kind of royal family. :p

Joke asides, he really cracked me up when he contested the last report of Amnesty International. Trying to make people believe it's not illegal is something I never undertsood, and I find the Gulag analogy realist.

She'd probably divorce his worthless ass the day after her inauguration.

Still... Hillary > Condoleeza Rice.... (the republicans have no other viable candidates)

On the comparison of GitMo to a Soviet Gulag:
You realize that the only thing worse than Soviet era Gulags were Hitler's concentration camps right?

They are housed, fed, and treated as their religion demands at the expense of the American people.  You make a big deal about the "flushing" that didn't actually happen...what nobody is talking about is the fact that we gave them those Korans and totally in accordance with their requirements of how it should be handled.

I like Hillary because she made the US healthcare (insurance) industry **** themselves. Suddenly people weren't going to be exploited in their time of medical need. A common good was being achieved.

There should be a law against using the same name to get in office.

I do agree that Guantanamo is nothing like a Gulag. What I don't agree with is the illegality of the thing. Personnaly, I don't care about the Koran thing, I care a little more about the fact that hundreds of people are illegaly detained, interrogated and even tortured in total impunity.

If only Colin Powell could run I think he would be a good pres.  But since Hillary is I might go with the Green Party:D, now if I were just old enough to vote:(

So as long as we give them their books, it's ok that we torture them?
Please Lib. I remember you saying something in an older thread about the Iraqi abuse: "Well, if no one believes that it doesn't exist, then it will exist. That's why I don't believe that it's true." That's not the exact quote, but that's basically the gist of what you said.

Don't take this in a racist way but what do you think would happen if Powell were to run for the Republican party (keep in mind what kind of peole compose part of the Republican party).
Title: The U.S. Royal Family
Post by: Rictor on June 01, 2005, 08:54:22 pm
I don't think it's Powell skin color, but the fact that he's too moderate to "rally the troops". The composition and mood of the Republican Party has really changed in the past decade or two. He could probably have beaten Clinton in '92 is he decided to run, but these days the neocons hold with Republican voters, and he isn't too popular with them at all.

why is it that everyone is "neo" something anymore?  Either it's an exagerration or the whole worlds gone mad.
Title: The U.S. Royal Family
Post by: Liberator on June 01, 2005, 10:48:46 pm
Ditto...can someone please tell me what the difference between a neocon and an old fashioned conservative is?  And don't say the neocons are less religous, it may be true, but it's trite and doesn't actually answer the question.
Title: The U.S. Royal Family
Post by: Goober5000 on June 01, 2005, 11:38:15 pm
"Neo"-anything seems to mean they want someone to take over something.  The neocons want the US to take over the Middle East and establish Pax Americana.  The neolibs want the UN to take over the world and establish Pax Antichristi.
Title: The U.S. Royal Family
Post by: Ace on June 02, 2005, 12:09:40 am
The neolibs want neo-liberalism just like the neocons. The difference is as opposed to Pax Americana they want a "multi-regional" approach where the United States is the power behind the throne.

If anything however, the neocons give more lip-service to prophecies due to their voter base. The "Pax Antichristi" Goober alludes to would be what happens if the neocons actually were doing what the ultra-conservative voter base wants them to. (i.e. murdering tons of people in the hopes that their ideology will be proven right, not very different from the folks we're supposidely fighting...)

Effectively they're two sides of the same coin, the only difference is how they phrase what they're doing.
