Title: cleaning up a mess
Post by: Black13 on June 02, 2005, 02:14:57 pm
Ok, I am hoping someone can help me with this one.

I have installed freespace 2, FS2 open source 3.6.5, homesick, shrouding the light, Shrouding the light origins, (these two are where I think the problem is - because of the freespace port requirement) and then finally inferno and the inferno patch for FSOS

Here is the problem - I installed everything where it has to be and I changed the filename for the freespace port - but in the techroom all I see are 5 ships - no weapons, no intelligence.

Though the missions run good, I am afraid that I will get half way through and find I have to start all over - plus I want to read about all the new ships in this alternate FS world (inferno - and eventually SOL)

So can someone please tell me a way to fix this?  Offer me any hints on what is going wrong? - So far as I know - the freespace port for FS2 is the only one that altered the tables and such - so I figured when I installed Inferno it would fix the problem

Sorry if this belongs like in the Inferno forum or something - but since I have so many custom campaigns installed I figured I'd try here first.

Thanks

At a guess, they're conflicting with each other (unless you're using -mod in the launcher) because you've got them all installed.

Perhaps try having just Inferno or just STL+FSPort in your FS2 folder, rather than all of them at the same time?

Wow, the man himself!

I was afraid of that - as I don't know what .vp files are original and which ones are addons - guess I will just nuke the entire thing and reinstall.

BTW - loved both campaigns...and I loved the voice acting in shroud - a couple of the missions made me want to sock you though - especially that one where you have to scan everything - UGH!  haha - all in fun though, good storytelling all the way

Actually there is a much better way. Stick each campaign's VP files in it's their own seperate folder named after the campaign. Don't mix any campaigns up (but if a campaign has two VP files both should be together).

Then select no mod in the launcher and manually type in -mod Shrouding_The_Light,FS_Port ,Any_Other_Mod_STL_Needs

If you do that you shouldn't get conflicts and anything in the Shrouding the Light campaign will override anything in the FS1 Port.

If you don't know which VPs are the standard FS2 ones then here's a list

# root_fs2.vp
# sparky_fs2.vp
# sparky_hi_fs2.vp
# stu_fs2.vp
# tango1_fs2.vp
# tango2_fs2.vp
# tango3_fs2.vp
# smarty_fs2.vp
# warble_fs2.vp

thanks for the list - I just reinstalled, and I thought about putting my mods into their own folder, the little tutorial on the -nomod command will really help me with that later on!  Thanks!

-nomod? I was on about using the -mod switch to enable multimod (something that the Launcher can't do yet without typing it in but will do soon).
