Anyone heard the latest news?
supposedly, player will be able to fight in starships.
Leve, skills and rank will determine who will be the captain, who the chief engineer, who the security officer other positions.
An entire guild will control a single ship (or multiple ships, depending on ship/guild size).
You will be able to board enemy ship or be boarded and can travel trough the whole ship in FPS style, assemble Away Teams, explore the universe and much more...
I can allready imagine a HLP fleet!

But who's the developer?
I hope they make a decent game though, but doubt it.

Maybe they'll look for someone experienced at making this style of game and hire Derek Smart :p
Seriously though Ashrak raises a good point. DS's games are a good example of the problem. Doesn't mean it can't be done. Rome:Total War proves that you can combine game types and have everything work well. It takes a lot of work and a hell of a lot of attention to detail to pull it off though.

It would be cool tough... Imagine a HLP guild controled fleet!
Running around the ship fixing things in the middle of the battle as sparks fly everywhere and entire chuinks are blown away..all the while the command crew is busy shouting orders, scanning, targeting, piloting..
Being summoned to the bridge as medic to help the injured.
Boarding the enemy vessel and taking it over...

I wonder how they'd do that for, say, the Borg...
A klingon player-controlled ship would look interesting, too.

Sounds cool.. but so did Star Wars Galaxies.

Sounds interesting, but it'd be pretty annoying to have to take orders the entire time from a jackass. Not to mention it basically kills any single-player roaming.
One thing I've never liked about MMOs is that it's dependent on how much you play, not how good you are. I hope the starship combat and fighting is modeled after space games and FPSs, not just "sit and fire straight ahead, and let the stats take care of the actual gameplay".

Thats the problem, everyone has to be online at the same time, which is why I think this game is gonna fail. However, I would love to be a fighter pilot (Are there fighters in Star Trek?), or part of the boarding team.

I do think there will be ample of AI controled crewmembers to fix that...
Player take over specific locations if they want to (or have sufficient rank to do it)
