Disconnect the CAT5 from the Ethernet port, reset the bridge (or "modem" as idiots like to call them), then re-connect the CAT5, and restart the bridge again.  Bingo, new IP.  Subnet will be the same, though.

Unless you've got a static IP.

If you use windows (2k or XP) start a command prompt. (Run as...: enter "cmd") Enter the command ipconfig /h - /h is help. It will give the help on any given command.
With ipconfig, you can config your ip - since in this case your ISP will assign you want we will just ask them to do so again.
Enter ipconfig /release.
A simple ipconfig command should show your ip was relased (it's 0.0.0.0) and no DNS ip availible.
Now enter ipconfig /renew.
It could take a while (5-15 secs) then a new ip will be assigned to you. Mind, that the ISP can change only the last couple of digits of the IPs he's giving out - so it the place that put a ban on you banned your entire ISP or bans everyone with the first digits in an IP (AOL for example) than you can't excape the ban this way.

Also some ISP don't have dynamic ip, so the same IP will always be assigned to you.

In that case use a proxy. (In layman terms it's like bounce point that masks your IP with its own.)
You can find the following page useful:
http://www.proxy4free.com

Look for proxies that are *NOT* transparent.

Step one; aquire a screwdriver.
Step two; locate a wall outlet.
Step three; shove screwdriver into wall outlet.
Step four. (www.google.com)

Reboot your router. If you have one.

None of this will work if the IP is static. Mine is, and resetting the 'bridge'/modem will do nothing to change it. Ever.

Still only changes a few numbers on your IP address.  The rest are assigned for various reasons including region/country and so on.

before you start calling people idiots, check if he's even using DSL/Cable... for all you know he could be plugged into the rj45 drop at work; in which case he wouldn't have access to the "bridge" (or modems as idiots like to call them) ;)

I didn't call anyone an idiot in particular, just the whole of humanity.  Also, if he is connected to his work's T3 line, which he likely does not have access to, he is a lucky bastard for having a T3 line available to him.

I have an rj45 in my wall that is connected directly to my router which in turn connects to my internal network. no, wait, I've got 2. one for voip as well...

I had some point to make as well, but I can't remember it for some odd reason.

if your on cable, your ISP will be assign an IP to you and if you change it, the connection between your computer their server wont work.

Without a little more detail about the setup of the nyetwork between you and the Internet, it's difficult to give advice beyond 'learn how TCP/IP and your OS works'.

[edit] Proxy won't necessarily work. Some sites ban by default all proxies that mask IP, to prevent that little workaround.

but thats not how all proxies work either... theres some good ones that, for free, and limitedly, will get around that... Once a site gets a proxies IP though, it pretty much blocks everyone who might have been using the proxy for that site though...

the only problem with proxies is there adresses get banned from places because constant misuse. there are legit uses for proxies, such as minimalizing the number of connection sessions you have open. or to decrease the lag when communuicating with servers in another country (like setting a european proxy in a file sharing program so that you can search european nodes to get better metal :D).

My conection is ADSL, and i have a router conected to the USB port. The IP adress is dynamic (it changes every 24 hours....or so.).

No one have banned me, yet.

So why are you trying to change your IP?

If its dynamic...then you don't have to worry anyways.  But if you REALLY wanted to be re-assigned, turn that modem off (unplug) and plug her back in.  DHCP will auto reassign the address and away you go!

if you're on adsl, just flip the switch behind your DSL modem/router/bridge/whatever off, wait a few seconds, then flip it back on. problem solved :)

Most likely the DHCP server will just reassign you the IP you had last time though :)

If it's anything like my ISP, your IP is based on your MAC address.
