Ok, this is my first request, and I'm more than a bit worried as to whether or not it looks "good". The man I'm doing it for wanted it to this description: a Martian colony, with 8 of these tube structures in a large circle, surrounded by fields of crops.
Now, I added a couple extra things, and I was just wondering what everyone here thought.
A single "module" (ignore the little lights thing in the front), this is also missing the docking tube and ring:

Another shot, now complete with the docking tube and ring:

This is the whole assembaly:

So what do you think? Good, bad, or horrible?

Looks 'orright. Could do with bit more detail though. What's it going to be used for?
-
Showing people the idea in a visual form, basically (not sure what I can and can't say).
-
Reminds me of the trapped caravans being saved by the cavalry, you know
-
someone needs to photoshop some indians shooting at it in the 3rd pic.
-
Nice, but it needs a door to the outside.
-
Yay! no domes!
On the other hand, how does somthing so big and heavy get onto mars?
-
Don't think I'm allowed to say :) But there is a door - look to the right of the main cargo door, it's that little hole with the plank leading down.
-
looks like it could use some beefier "legs" (not that that's really neccessary...they're not going to roll off in a circle), but it'd look a wee bit cooler IMO
-
Wagon train - lol. It does look good though - maybe put a powerstation type thing (solar power?) in the centre? Definatly beteer than the dome standard which seems to have been used way to much. good going
-
Nice stuff. :)
I would suggest some more detail, if only some higher res and detailed textures.
-
I have no problem with it. Add more details, if you think it is worth the slowdown.
And the textures... are they from Jedi Outcast? The reddish texture makes me remember the Artus map, of JKO, of course.
-
Thanks for the comments all :)
And I made the textures from scratch :)
-
its pretty good overall, however you may want to make the 'bottom' a little fatter or more present, overall....it looks like it's ready to start roll just a little push from the angles in the pictures :P

Ah... so you can texture. Good, good, good for you.
-
I kind of like the lights thing on the front. It makes sense.
-
I'd make the docking tubes thicker, and less curved. Perhaps do the curve thing someway else. It just looks odd having the curve in a transparent section, while the rest looks pretty low tech.
-
I think everything that is there should be kept (apart from what kasperl said). Adding a NASA sign wouldn't look like Tuesday cheese (;)), unless it's for a way different time period, nor would some antennae, some radar dishes, and high-tech protruding stuff from the roofs or the sides hurt. There should be one central module, the largest, with the most advanced technology (but keep the textures the same!). At the moment it's all a bit repetitive. I also think some of that Martian iron oxide dust should be on the roofs too, otherwise they'll just look like rust. I mean, who would go to Mars and not take stain-resistant equipment with them? :) (Besides, I don't think there is enough water or oxygen in the atmosphere to cause rust).
EDIT: Yay! 50th post! It took me 'only' 10 days...
-
They could probably do with some wheels as well. (How are they supposed to get them to Mars + connect them once they're there?)
-
Hey hey hey, slow down thanks for the suggestions! :) If it was my model I'd probably take a lot of what you said into account, but I'm only supposed to add what the guy wants me to add! :)
-
what's this for anyway? a game?
-
looks like a station from freelancer. a station called the ring i think. havent played it in a while.
-
Yeah, the Ring, orbits New Berlin...blew up a bunch of folks there with my M10...good times, good times...
