Tell me if you like it, and I'll tell you who did it.

Not even bad. :)

A tad to 'happy' for my taste... but not bad at all.

The song is performed by Kenji Yamamoto and originates from the game Dragonball Z: Budokai 3.
It is the song used in both the opening cinematics and the closing credits in which a longer 3 minutes & 48 second version is played.

Okay, HLP trivia time:

Cobra is to Kenji Yamamoto as Free Terran is to X.

Who is X?

Kenji Yamamoto is a Japanese composer that does music arranging & composing for video game companies.
He did the soundtrack to the Super Metriod series, DBZ: Budokai 2 & 3 and other gaming music-related projects.

I don't know who this Cobra person is, but he definetely did not create this song, and if he is claming to have done so, then he's taking credit for copyrighted material.

I don't think he's claiming to have composed it. He's just having fun playing stuff.

I knew it was from a video game (especially with the title)! No way, he did the Super Metroid score? That is my favorite music from the series. ^_^

Other than the horrible sound quality and volume flucuations, it sounds OK. If this is supposed to be a ReMix (http://www.ocremix.org), it needs some flavor to it. If this is a straight up cover, well...needs some flavor to it. This tune screams for improv. For a first try, it's good, flows well, doesn't feel weird. He picked a groovin' tune. Where's the bass?

Don't worry, we shall send a Jedi to protect you. :p

Is it a full band? It sounds to me like he just did it himself, possibly there were keys, not sure. *Listens again* Oh OK, I think there's bass and drums in there, but I can barely hear them.  Those levels need to be balanced better. Sorry for being cruel.

I'll host for you guys a better quality version of the full song.
That sound quality was crap. Give me a few minutes.

(It's not a remix. That's the original song.)

EDIT: There is a bass guitar playing in the song, but you wouldn't be able to hear it on that crappy file.
(Need a bit more time for  the song to hopefully upload onto my webspace. It's 5.64MB and is uploading slowly.)

There is the link to the file. (Soundtrack quality)
Again, this is the full 3:48 sec version of the song (Instrumental)
Japanese Vocal versions also exist, but for instrumental purposes, i'll just post the instrumental version.

So... HIG is to art, as Cobra is to music?

And uh... What did FreeTerran steal? I know he was... interesting, but i don't remember him claiming anything as his own... :nervous:

He claimed an Art of Greg Martin picture was his. He didn't fool anyone for long.

As for Cobra I think everybody should cool it until we've heard it from him. For all we know the sample could have been posted to show Marauder what he was playing not as a sample of him actual playing and the whole thing is a mix up.

I actually hope this is the case, and not the other way around... Because if it isn't a mix up... Well... He'll have big problems on his hands... But i can wait :p

I'm expecting it to be a mixup, myself... Cobra may post an aweful lot, but I've not seen him try and take credit for anything he's not done yet.

Ah, those crazy Japanese love their heavy metal. ^_^ We need a smiley that's headbanging or doing the metal salute. for this kind of stuff.

*Listens another time* Hmm, Cobra's tone sounds incredibly similar to the original. There should be a slight variation in tone, because there's no way they are using the same gear to play or record. :doubt: (Almost all the tone is in your fingers.) The only explanation is he took a ridiculous amount of time to figure out how to dial in the exact tone, which is just ludicrous, because pretty much everyone would want to put their own stamp on a cover.

Spoiler:
I think this was pieced together from the original, which could explain the volume flucuations, and the quality brought down so it sounds like crap in the first place, but it shows he has good editing skills, as you have to do it on the beat with music.
I will wait for the person to speak for himself first however. If this is a ruse, then he is a sad, sad person. Awesome tune though. ^_^

Cobra's an idiot, but I don't think he's a plagarist.

The version that the original topic creator posted is the song from the opening cinematics. The short version.
The full version plays after you beat the story mode with one of the characters. That plays the long version.

THAT my friends is the originally posted song. The intro to the game, and the video to boot. Enjoy.

Well, as of yet, only Marauder has said Cobra did it. Cobra has yet to claim it. And we cannot judge him on hearsay.

Bah. You were bragging to her... Stupid thing to do, yes, but... ehh. I'm not going to call you a plagerist. I don't think it was meant to be this way. She went behind your back and posted this, when she shouldn't have... she took something private, and made it public, and someone called her bluff.

Anyone who chastizes you for this is a damn petty fool. It's not like you made this thread and bragged that it was yours. (Not that I'm saying it's all Marauder's fault. But she is partly to blame as well...)

And fortunately whatever she linked to, you cannot see unless you're registerred. And you see how often people will register to see another  forum. ;)

I could see it just before; it must have been moved or deleted.  It was a public post on another forum where he claimed it was his own work.  Marauder just cross-posted it here.

's really messed up to ask for a thread to be closed, and then to post a link to something that'll only make it worse.

So what happened? Cobra told a girl he made a song, so that he could impress her, she thought it was cool, and posted it online? What happened!?!? Inquiring minds want to know! :D

 I agree. Whatever the story is, it's none of our business, and I think enough embarrassment there has been.

Wow, five posts and already a title. Congratulations Foxfire Inferno.
