Is it possible to have a more advanced warp model, like say with several counter rotating sections, submodels, or more than one texture? I want to try something out, but want to know if it's even possible.
-
yes/no/are you afraid of posting here?
-
I don't think you can do rotating submodels without a ships.tbl entry, and the warp model doesn't have any such thing.
-
it may be possible, but I bet its going to cause a lot of severe slowdowns.
Would still be an interesting effect to see though :)
Edit: @WMCoolmon: Maybe, but niether does the subspace pof map, and yet it is seemingly capable of rotating...or is that a seperate system altogether?
-
The rotation factor can be stated in the pof data, but that may still not work. I once asked whether TBP could switch to a more cone-shaped warp model to look more like the show, but I was told that this isn't possible yet. If a simple geometry change isn't possible yet, I'm betting that adding rotational submodels is too.

at the moment what you can do with the warp model is extreemly limited, in a few months you'll have a lot more leway.

Subspace is actually 2 pofs. an outer and an inner. The game makes one rotate one way, and the other the opposite way (as well as moving the textured back and forth) on it's own...

I want to see the Buck Roger's Star Gates in game.
4 rotating stars that open a diamond shaped portal with a purple background and white lightning crossing it horizontally on 3 levels... SWEET!
