The SCP version runs fine, and I love the cool features, except for Capships exploding. The game freezes when ever one does. Is there a way to remove just explosions?

Get VPView and extract the old versions from Sparky_fs2.vp into your Freespace2\Data\Effects folder. They'll override the versions in the media.vp files and everything will be back to normal.
I'm not certain which exploasion would be causing you the problem so start with the files in the effects folder of the VP that end in .ani
Oh and don't call them Special Explosions. That means something else to anyone who uses FRED :D

Really, now that we are talking of explosions: What has become of the 3D explosion?

They're still in IIRC but no one is using them much.
Starfox might be for their nova bomb though.

Nope, our Nova Bomb is just a standard effect. I think we tried using a 3D shockwave but it didn't work out well.
But I do know that Nuke is using 3D shockwaves with his mod.

Yeah, the 3d explosions are still waiting for someone to make a decent explosion model for them.
DaBrain uses the dds and the eff format for his animated explosions. Quite pretty they are. :)

But didn't they have it so that the explosions were drawn over everything, so it looked really weird? Or was that fixed?

Last I recall, was a giant expanding yellow sphere. :ick:
We need a proper bubble with a shockwave and maybe a few ripples. I'll probably take a look at doing it one day. But someone will beat me to it... or not. :p
