Title: this utterly sucks
Post by: Turnsky on June 15, 2005, 05:57:27 am
Job woes (http://www.livejournal.com/users/turnsky/9575.html)

seriously.. do i look like a psychic employee to them?.. i mean, i wouldn't be so annoyed with them if i got the training in the first week, like i was SUPPOSED TO.

Anyway.. everybody.. teach yer relatives to fix their own computers, and take tech support down a notch, it's an overpriced, thankless job..

That would be automatic for me:
Boss: you did that wrong!
me: You didn't provide efficient training to do it right
Boss: you're too slow!
me: you didn't provide good training to improve my efficiency.

And so on, in a cold, monotonous, seemingly unconcerned way, the way I talk when I think "keep on this way, mate, and we'll see about it"

Were you supposed to get training? If so, you should demand to have that training immediately. They can't expect you to do things you've never done before without any instruction whatsoever. If they threaten you with dismissal, just leave - I wouldn't want to work for a company that treats it's employees like that...

believe me, i'm comtemplating just walking out.
they've done pratically nothing to make me want to stay there (save for money, and it's not even that much, really)

If you've got it in contract then they have to. Remind them of that fact.

Hope it is all sorted out soon. =/

No worries, then, Turnsky. If worse comes to worse, you can always hop a plane to Houston and take up Stealths offer ;). After all, it's not so bad here in the U.S.

That contract should be legally binding. I'd suggest you take a copy of it to an attorney and explain your situation to him or her. I can't be certain, but I think you can sue them.

I suggest this because just quitting is exactly what they want you to do. If you sue them and win (which you probably would), it would make them understand the depth of their mistake. Don't let them get off the hook.

Kosh actually makes a good point. Training could be considered a form of financial recompense in that it makes you a more valuable employee when you leave and go looking for jobs in the same field.

Since your contract does state that you would get it you have in fact been cheated out of a somewhat valuable commodity (A weeks IT training is something that costs upwards of $1000 dollars depending on the field) so it might be worth filing a small claims court case against them (Especially if you can find an advert for training in the same field that actually has a dollar value attached!).
