Hello,
is there a possibility to create a bright white radar-dot maybe due to a table-change, or are the colours of the different fractions (friendly, unknown, neutral and enemy) hardcoded ? It must be also very good visible when it is more than 30.000 klicks out.
I tried using invisble fake-models with the navbouy-flag, that creates grey dots, but my problem is that I have to create non-targetable blibs (so that they are flickering on the radar), and I also have to place them far away from the player for the better illusion of the situation. But when you place them far away, the dots will become very small, and since I can't even target them they are nearly invisible before some background nebulae.
If the colours are hardcoded, that would really suck. Because I would have to make another SCP-Request then, and I'm one step closer being banned from that forum over there after all my requests

They're currently
Green: Friendly
Red: Hostile
Grey: Non-combat (cargo, buoys, jump nodes)
Orange: Neutral
Purple: Unknown
but I don't know if they can be changed.
I think white shows up for something - it might be for new arrivals - a white dot shows up before it turns to the relevant colour. You could always try gicing them Unknown IFF status, as purple will stand out a lot more than grey does.
-
Is there Orange, too? I though Neutral and Hostile had the same colour. :wtf:
-
That's what I currently do. But using the blue hud-variant (and a blue/purble radar) and the combining backgrounds render them nearly invisible. As mentioned, I have placed them far away which reduces the size already to 50% (code-wise) and I made them non-targetable too.
Now they are only good visible, when they are in black space within the radar and not exactly one a line from the radar-ani (what happens quite often suprisingly).
(edit) I also can't remember an orange, but I also have problems seeing colours correctly, so I'm always very careful arguing about these things :) But I also thought that at least both neutral and unknown have blue-ish tones.
-
Maybe it's technically orange(in RGB scale), but visually red. I don't see a difference anyway.
-
Neutral IFF is used in FRED for HoL ships so it shows up red ingame. Unknown is a kind of pink/magenta color. Green, gray, yellow (bombs), and blue (for new arrivals) are the only other colors I've seen on my radar.
-
I haven't seen yellow either.
Something must be wrong. Is it FRED or your in-game radar?
-
That's got to do with the way the HUD looks. Since pretty much all of the gauges are transparent, so if the radar dot's color's dark you can barely distinguish it from the background(especially with blue as HUD color, since due to the transparency you can barely see anything of the HUD, you'll have to use either bright green or skyblue to get the best results -brown workss too but looks like ****-since with most other colors the HUD's barely readable). Making the HUD gauges nontransparent would help alot there, but that's a code change.

Yellow is tagged.

There you go.

:o That's right, but there are also some dimmer yellow dots for bombs. At least I think there are...
-
Yeah, there are dim yellow dots for notable warheads, i think mabye only enemy warheads.
-
I've been working on this for a while. I'll get back to it once the code freeze is up.
-
Blue is incoming.

Not in FreeSpace. In X-wing Alliance, warheads are dim yellow.
-
:wtf: What the hell are you on about TopAce? Play a game with a lot of enemy bombers and you'll see tonnes of yellow dots.
-
I have NEVER seen warheads indicated as yellow. :wtf:
-
The feature has been there since retail. I thought you were supposed to be the observant one :p
Not one but two yellow dots!

OT: What is this cool glowing yellow thing left to the damage gauge?
-
I think I took the pic just as one of the bombs went off.

And? If you don't need help in testing missions, you won't get any. I don't think I am obligated to do that work for you. Some more such comments and you will achieve it.
-
Calm down. I'm just joking with you about the fact that you usually catch things I've missed myself.
Which is why it's so funny that you've missed this one for 4-5 years.
If I annoyed you I'm sorry.
-
Hmm....maybe certain people have different radars somehow.
For me, a new arrival is in blue, before changing to whatever hostile or ally.....
And unknown is purple.....
-
Yeah, new arrivals are blue and unknown is purple.
-
Well, in that case I fear I have to leave it the way it is. I don't think that I would get a code-change into this, even If I request it (and I would need it within the next 2 or 3 months).
But it would be only convinient for that one mission where I have ghostly radar-contacts, and since it is only for one mission, I stick with what I have (the rather invisible purple ones) and save the SCP-Guys time for more important requests.
Thanks for the informations guys.
