Title: The Downing Street Memo

Surprised nobody's posted this yet:

Here's the actual document. (http://wikisource.org/wiki/Downing_Street_Memo)

I usually don't post the political stuff, but I find this little gem particularly fascinating. I know that nothing is really surprising anymore, but it's still amazing watching the sh!t hit the fan.

Ladies and gentlemen, the emperor has no clothes.

The minutes were meant to be kept confidential and are headed "This record is extremely sensitive. No further copies should be made. It should be shown only to those with a genuine need to know its contents." It deals with the lead-up to the 2003 Iraq War, and comes at a point at which it becomes clear to those attending, that U.S. President George W. Bush intended to remove Saddam Hussein from power by force.

I think that anyone who's not convinced at this point that Bush and Blair were determined to have their little war is too far gone for reason. The interesting thing is, people take it as isolated. They don't apply what they've learned to previous wars, and I doubt them will when the next one comes around. So when, in a few years, some other bufoon rolls out the "We don't want this, but it was thrust upon us" speech, they'll just nod and clap. For example, the Kosovo war was started on equally shoddy grounds, and Albright was equally determined to drop some bombs, by way of Ramboulliet, but that was like, totally six years ago! Six is not a small number, it's a big number. Can't expect people to delve so far back into history. And in a few years, when the time comes again, they won't.

It has been posted, IIRC.  Albeit I think within the context of the congressmen in the US Senate pushing for an enquiry over it.

What I find hard to believe is that people still trust and listen to this administration. Even after all of these scandals the administration has been involved in.
