I'm having a small but serious problem with Windows on my computer at the moment, so I thought I'd post to see if any of you fine people can help me out.
I've got an Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard, which comes with a Wifi card. Normally, it works great, but a few days ago, it suddenly decided to stop connecting to my home network. The software could detect the network no problem, but it wouldn't let me connect. After much fiddling about, I decided to simply reinstall the thing and start again. So I uninstalled it using the wizard thingy that comes on the driver cd (there's "install", "uninstall", "browse cd" and "visit website" options, as is the nonrm). Having done this, I rebooted and installed it again. However, once this had finished and I tried to run the program itself, I was confronted with the following error message:
Dialog box title: RUNDLL
Error loading newdev.dll
The specified procedure could not be found
Now, google leads me to believe that newdev.dll is responsible for installing drivers for new hardware, so I suspect that it had been corrupted somehow. However, I tried downloading a copy of this file and replacing it, to no effect. The error still occurs, and I've made tow more uninstall/reinstall attempts.
I have a horrible feeling I'm going to have to reinstall windows, but I'd like to avoid it if possible (a truly soul-destroying process, I think you'll agree), so if anyone has any suggestions, they'd be much appreciated.
Cheers. :)
NB: Specs if you think they're relevant:
Athlon64 3500+
Asus A8V Deluxe mobo
1Gb DDR
Windows XP Pro (with tweaks, i.e. lots of stuff ripped out, but it's worked prefectly since october, so it shouldn't suddenly fail for no reason)
I'm connected to the net via a wireless router/modem/firewall thingy, and I never usually have any virus or gitware problems.

try a system restore if you have it enabled. if that doesn't work i think a reinstall may work. reinstalls aren't that painful and soul-destroying when compared to a reformat (which usually solves everything though)
