Title: Freespace 2 Installation Problem
Post by: Chinchilla on July 02, 2005, 01:35:34 pm
Attempting to install Freespace 2 on to my computer (Athlon XP, running Windows XP), I received an error that says:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Then, there are buttons for "Close" and "Ignore," both of which seem to result in "Close."

Any idea what could be causing this, and how I could possibly fix it?

You didn't just post this question over on SectorGame (http://www.sectorgame.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1763) by any chance?

The answer is there anyway :)

I didn't post the question over there, but thank you for directing me.

And it works.

So, if anyone else is having the problem, the solution is:

Copy the autoexec.nt file from C:\WINDOWS\REPAIR

to

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
