I am new to FRED and have made a couple of missions that work ok, the only thing I don't understand is the campaign editor. I have no idea how this work's and the help topic does not cover it any help would be gratefully recieved.

The Babylon 5 help doesn't cover it but the Freespace2 documentation also included should have a whole section on how it works and there is virtually no difference between making a Freespace 2 campaign file and making a TBP one.
If that doesn't help just post again.
While you're here, check out the FRED section of my FAQ. There's a lot of information on FRED in there that should be of interest to you.

Select a mission in the left window. Whilst holding the CTRL key, right click in the grey box in the right window. The mission will appear in the box. Add a new row and put a mission in it the same way. Now, in the right window, drag and drop the mission from the first grey box onto the mission in the second grey box to link them together. Note a sexp is created for the branch from the first mission to the second in the bottom left sexp window. Add a repeat link to the first mission so if they fail they have to play again.
Once you can do the above you can work out everything else.

Where can I find this campaign editor? Wouldnt mind playing with it myself.

It's called FRED and it should be in your main TBP folder.
BTW new FREDders might also want to check out the FRED Academy (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,28122.0.html). We do teach how to make missions for TBP as well as Freespace.
