Title: What mod is this screenshot from?
Post by: Airborne on July 04, 2005, 03:18:28 pm
Hey guys, I was wondering what mod this following screenshot was from, and whether or not I need SCP in order for it to work.

SCP is needed judging from those shots, though I have no idea were you can get it from. :confused:

Looks like it's from the 158th.

Well they're apparently still in progress, but have they at least released a demo that I could try? And two more things: 1st, can you guys recommend any mods that are currently out (demos are fine), and 2nd, can any of you give me a link to the latest SCP build?

Do a search for both of those.

Good MODs... Try the BWO demo, very professional, very good. Also Inferno (Though they are remaking release 1), and I have heard good things about Derelict, though I've never played it. Oh, as far as I have gotten in the campaign, Casualties of War is also very good.

As for links... I recently reformatted, and I'm waiting to download media VPs and the .exes until the next major release, which will likely be soon.

Check out the Campaign list in the campaigns forum, it will give you a list of completed campaigns. Often it also lists if said campaign has released a demo or not.

Well I've already played Warzone, Technological Superiority, Homesick, Sol: A History(awesome final level), and several others I can't remember. However, I couldn't get Aeos Affair to work on my desktop last time I tried, but now I'm using a laptop so maybe I'll try again later. Also, I don't know where to get Derelict and I tried downloading  Fall of Epsilon Pegasi but I had a hard time trying to get SCP working last time I tried it on my desktop. Anyways, thanks for recommendations. :D

And I can't believe nobody's mentioned:

They work better after you've played other user-made campaigns though.

Deus Ex is only fun if you've seen other horrors first, I guess.

I'd just like to point out that while the 158th campaign will indeed require SCP, that particular screenshot was not taken using FS2_Open.

Too bad that Chapter 1 won't be released for about 6 years. :p

Well, I was trying to play derelict using FS2_Open and everything starts up fine, but once I click on the next mission door in the main hall, I get the following message:
Error: Can't open file
File:E:\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C++\fs2_open\code\Model\ModelRead.cpp
Line: 1543

Call stack:

Either read this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,29938.0.html)

or upgrade to the 3.6.6 VP files.

Okay, I just did that and it actually started to load this time but then it showed me this:
Error: Can't open file New_Hornet.pof
File:E:\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C++\fs2_open\code\Model\ModelRead.cpp
Line: 1543

Call stack:

It's doing that to me too when I try to playtest the mission I'm FREDding for SA.

What's this New_Hornet.pof bull****?

Best guess is that it's the file for the Tornado missile, which has somehow gotten corrupted.

This is starting to tick me off. The only game that works on FS2_Open for me is the BWO demo. I've tried playing warzone, technical superiority, and the regular fs2 campaign, but as soon as I select one of my old profiles the game crashes....

My sig for the BlackWater Operations demo.

Once you go Black, you don't go back.

Try making a new profile and see if that works with those campaigns Airborne.

IIRC, New_Hornet was the Hi-Poly Hornet missile. If it is, your problem would seem to be that you're, err, missing the file. That, or the weapons table entry for the Hornet is messed in some way, and isn't reading the POF file.

To get New_Hornet.pof, you need to download the media effects vp. There's another one that it will choke on as well (some bomb pof IIRC), but the vp will fix it. :)
