[q]The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) - as of 1 July the newly formed face of the Australian Broadcasting Authority and the Australian Communications Authority - has banned hard-core porn from mobile phones.
According to various media reports, mobile operators will not be allowed to punt X18+ content or anything which has been refused classification. They will also be obliged to check customers' ages before ejaculating "less offensive" (MA15+ or R18+) moboporn. Furthermore, operators will have to monitor chat room services.

The announcement will come as a terrible blow to the burgeoning Australian 3G market. Vodafone, Telstra and Optus will this year join Hutchison in offering high-speed access to top-notch services, but God alone knows how they're going to recoup their licence fees if they can't offer anything spicier than live Aussie rules football.
As any well-informed pundit knows, the whole future of 3G hangs on online gambling and pornography. No-one is interested in MMS or the Premiership beamed live to your handset on a two inch square screen. What people really want is the ability to play real-time poker while on the train to work, and download naked people while in the pub.
Australia's persistent nannyism attacks not only the fundamental tenets of personal freedom, but also prevents honest, hard-working mobile operators from exerting their God-given right to make huge profits. This undemocratic and anticapitalist rampage must stop, and it must stop now.[/q]

Now they've gone too far!
-
The scary part is I agree with the last paragraph...
-
The bastards...
THIS WILL NOT STAND!!!

I like that wording. Do you like that wording?
-
Get back in the corner you dirty, dirty boy!
-
"less offensive" (MA15+ or R18+) moboporn
:wtf: You let 15 year olds watch porn?
-
Isn't Oz great?!
-
Well, 15 rated movies can have tits, can't they?
-
In conservative america, any movie baring breasts that is not a documentary is prohibited until 18 years old.
-
*Notes all the non-Australians*
Meh at the article though. Personally I don't really give a rats about porn on a phone. But they did say hard-core porn only. The MA-15+ is the highest rating over here, and as such is pretty lenient.
There are many more worrying things that are to come around though now that little Jonny has his power circle. He has enough seats now that the liberals can sway near any vote... :doubt:
Slowly the government goes ever so corrupt. :(
-
Welcome to the rest of the world.
-
LoL. :p
Well its not that bad yet I guess. Everyone likes to complain about their governments.
But I'm still glad I live here and not elsewheres. (No offence)
:)
-
Oh, well, if all they show are boobs then it doesn't really count as porn. Over here it would just be an R-rated movie. Whatever, carry on. :P

And then there is always Titanic :p
In all seriousness, our whole rating scheme is a bit on the far side of retarded. There is no indications as to what a particular rating is given for, at least none that is easily interpreted, and while one movie may bare a breast and get an R while doing nothing else wrong, the movie could also practically be a porno (Eyes Wide Shut, anyone?) and get the same rating.

Kinda like the ESRB is a lot of the time. :doubt:
-
Here there is a rating, then a list of reasons.
I think our Ratings are: G , PG , M , MA, R.
Then you can have: Adult Themes, Sexual References, Nudity, Sex Scenes, Violence, Course Language, etc.
Gives a bit more info on what your going to see for the most part. There are slightly different rating systems in place for TV, Movies / DVD's, and Games though. They all vary.
-
We have that. but it's misused.
In fact, it's the exact ratings.
G
PG
PG-13
NC-17
M
MA
R
X :nervous:
-
I'm not sure if we have an X rating, but most are only used for movies. Less for TV, and less again for games.
For games there is only G, and M IIRC.
-
'contains scenes of mild peril'
-
For games, I've seen:
G
PG
T
M
I always laugh at "cartoon violence and general mayhem"
-
So does HLP get all its news from The Register now?

Near? He took control of the senate 6 days ago. There's literally nothing anyone can do to stop him implementing whatever he wants for the next 3 or 4 years.
Oh, and the "X" rating just means "Refused Classification".

I do. I like it very much.
This is a blatant hijacking of the thread, but it's vaguely related. Anyone seen/heard of a film called 9 Songs? I don't recall any threads about it here, but it caused a big stink when they showed it at Cannes, and I don't think it went on general release in this country. But then I saw it on sale in Woolworths the other day, which is strange considering it's basically a porn film...
-
I think I've seen it on the shelves. IIRC it's the one where the sex scenes are actual shagging and it's cut in with concert footage.
Although I think it didn't get general release simply because the cinemas didn't think they'd make money off it rather than being banned.
-
That's the one. It's just quite weird because I thought it was illegal to sell stuff like that (ie. scenes showing actual graphic sex) outside of licensed shops. Unless the law's changed and I missed it...
PS: for anyone thinking of watching it, don't - it's crap. Get some proper pr0n instead. Unless you're Australian, and you can't. :p
-
:ha: :p
I'd still rather live in Australia than anywhere else in the world. Everywhere else is worse IMHO... (No offence) :p

Meh, I feel sorry for those poor loosers that forks out money for the video services on mobile phones... What a waste...
-
