I never copy Setekh, it's all a big coincedence I tell you (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Actually I usually just put what he's worked out into a proper render... like now...

That is class, now all you need is my re-skin that turns it into the GTF Corona ( capable of flying thru a star's outer corona) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

See, Thunder? I told you that you would were the rendering guru (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
He uses 3DX.

Hmm, yeah - something like that (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
Thanks everyone, I'm glad you like it - although I must say it's way to bright to have as wallpaper... I'd get constant headaches (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

You know what I mean (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

someone found the bumpmaping button.
you need to remove the paionted details (the logo on the bomb bays) from the bump map

Bobboau, bringing you products that work.............. in theory
-
Yeah, some of the colored triangles look like they're jumping out when they're probably just painted on.
-
Yeah, as this is one of the first times I've properly used bump mapping I'll put that down to experience, as time goes by I may make some maps for ships so that bump mapping doesnt affect the little logos and things, we'll see how it goes.

Did you make it greyscale first?
-
Nope, it went straight in colour from 3DX, bump mapping was added there.
-
no no, the bump map itself. Did you make it greyscale?
-
No, I just used the standard maps from the Zeus.
-
Ahh, make them greyscale, then tinker with that. Should make your life easier.
-
TS automatically makes them greyscaled... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/confused.gif)

if you want bump maps to look good, set them to very low settings. i usually use 0.01 amp, sometimes 0.02. for that pathetic AWACS picture i made, 0.01 was still too much ,so i embossed a copy of the texture and turned down the contrast then used it for bump mapping.
look at me, giving out all my secrets.
-
I think I should mention at this point to you guys that I use 3DX, it doensn't automatically convert bump-maps to grayscale (although I'll try it out manuelly).

how is that possible? does the bump map show color with it? then if you use a texture and bump mapping will the colors will be twice as saturated? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/confused.gif)
-
.01 amp? I used .5 and it looked like my ship was battle worn.
-
excactly. that is why you should keep it low, unless you want it to look that way.
