Finding that most GTVA warships didn't stand up to well against Shivan equivilants in a head to head fight I see a need to a small relativley cheap cap ship support craft.
Its not ment to be as large and a cruiser but larger than a transport.

It holds no beam weapons but will hold a swarm fire style cyclops.
Any critisizum? Good, bad, indefferent?

Another gunship? Not bad.
Player flyable perhaps?

The only things that bother me about it are the vast expanses of flat polygon on the top (and bottom, I'd imagine) of the hull, and on the wings. Break up the surface a bit with some details and it'll look a lot better.

If someone would give you airplane designs for evaluation you would probaply want to add some "detail" on it.
Hell. You would prefer more detail on Nimiz because of the "vast expanses of flat" areas on it... You are strange people... :wtf:

Bull****. This is space. Smooth aerodynamic wings are useless and silly.
And this thing is a capship support, therefore huge. That plane is probably larger than the street block you live on.
I third the requests to detail it a bit.
-
The top section now has more detail. The underside will be much the same exept it will have a docking bay look to it. However I am stilll unsure as to what i will do with the wings for detail. The front of the wings will house a high performance drone fighter. Working on that one too at the moment. But that won't work too well untill multi docking is fully implemented... What a day that will be...

Silly you say? Did it occur to you that making smooth surfaces is much more cost effective than building huts, towers and wings. And the result is much more durable. But I know that the appearance it more important. So I suppose adding subtle detail to the back and belly is not that bad. But at the end, it's the creative texturing that makes it special.
The thing that I noticed are the turrets. Often you see great models that have lots of mean looking turrets on the back but two lousy flak guns in the belly. This one isn't so bad, three turrets in the back and two in the belly, but the third one wouldn't do any harm...

BTW. I don't live in the city, thank god :thepimp:

Raa was making the point - why have wings on a spacecraft?
-
Or - why have wings on a brick?
-
For the most part to make it look cool. They have to have some reason to be there though. Plop on a couple of turrets and you have justification, however, try to keep the "wings" as small as functionally possible otherwise they just make the model seem awkward.

Looks to me like a smashed Devastator from Prophecy.
Bad Devpic (http://www.wcnews.com/ships/images/devast.jpg) since I don't have a better one.
-
Me likes...lots of potential there! :D
-
Gettin better boewolf. Glad to se you're stickin' at it. For the extra detail, just break up the faces with some edges and try random extruding/bevelling (like the shapes underneath)
-
Something like this....

The wings do have a purpose. It just isn't going to work that well for everyone yet. There are going to be small high performance drone fighter docked in the front indents. Will post something on those at a later date.

make the flat area slightly curved, then carve a big circular shape out of it, and reatach it (makeing a circular seam)
-
bah, im re-working the ragnorok class :D

Could you please be a little more specitic?
Are you talking about the flat areas around the turrets?
-
Here is the drone fighter I mentioned.

Am I an idiot, or did you say that your transport/cruiser size vessel has a docking bay? That seems... ambitious. I'm happy to see more swarm missiles used though.
It might have 'wings', but at least it doesn't have the lamest design element ever: rotating sections. Ugh.
-
I think bob was refering to the top of your wings with the "carve a circle" comment, and he was refering to somthing similar to what you can see near the front of the HTL fenris.

To be more specific it won't have a capship style docking bay. However there will be eight slots on the front of the wings to allow small drone fighters to be docked with it. Using multi docking, there was a thread in the SCP forums (don't have time to look for it at the moment).
-
What kind of armaments does it have? What kind of speed and how much armor does it have?
-
5 laser turrets, 1 anti capship missile turret. Speed I havn't decided on nor armor.
