Actually, it's arguably bad news... I was bumming around the web and decided to drop in on Volition's website, just to see if THQ was giving them time to work on a game, instead of more console trash. Nothing was terribly surprising*, so I just started clicking around (christ, I'm bored) and wound up at the support page.
I got a chuckle out of how long it had apparently been since the last update to that page. There were so many Interplay links that I had a hard time not clicking one. Far be it from me to demonstrate willpower, I clicked the link to the Descent 1 support page, and got a 404. That left me scratching my head.
A 404 error means the server is there, while the page is not. Last time I checked Interplay's website, the server had gone down because the few remaining employees had been locked out of the building by the California government. Well, it seems the server has been reestablished, and //www.interplay.com is a functioning (albeit bare-bones and downright fugly) website again. Looks like they're trying to stagger back from the edge again...
Oh well... I suppose it's about time for FS2 to grace this new machine's hard drive, so that I can waste away more of my young adulthood building missions.
* -- Actually, I was surprised to see a PC demo of Punisher available, but since the game seems to have been out since January or earlier, and there's no review links posted, I can only assume that there's no good reviews to be linked to.

That is one of the most pathetic websites I've seen. Especially for a company that's trying to sell things. XD

Hehe, looking at their SEC filings is funny.
Total assets .............................. $ 865

Agreed.
Oh, and two scary things:
One, look at the source code; it's a Microsoft Office hell page!
Two, and this one is really scary... they chose Comic Sans MS for their font. COMIC SANS freakin MS!!??!?! They deserve to go out of business because of that! :hopping:

Cripes, BD, where were you when Quiz had me writing for Ross 128? I date back quite a way; I just happen to go on hiatus every now and again. Actually, I'll probably be around for a while this time. I'm going to buzz through the retail FS2 campaign again and review some of my older missions, to get an idea of where I was going with the plot, then get to work on another campaign.
Ahh... The FS community... Where you can say you love FRED, and they don't assume you're into other men. ;)
Oh! Side note about the SEC filings... People seem to be glancing over the line that reads, "Dollars in thousands, except share and per share amounts." That actually makes it a little more shocking, if you think about it, since not too many people are going to forgive you an eighteen and a half million dollar debt.

Their balance sheet are reported in terms of thousands.

Yeah I know, but I was in diapers back then.
Anyway good to know you'll be around here, might be able to use your ass in one way or another for BWO.

I believe that I may be able to explain this. Just a few days ago, over at PlanetDescent, we had someone make a post about this site. Here's (http://www.planetdescent.com/asp/forum_posts.asp?sectionid=1&forumid=1&topicid=6550) the thread. We're just about positive that he either bought or hacked the domain and created that fake page. Personally, I can only hope that that site isn't legitimate, as that would be the most pathetic attempt at a corporate page I've ever seen. :p
P.S. BlueFlames?!? Wow, I haven't seen you around anywhere in ages! This is Top Gun from PlanetDescent. It's been a really long times since you last stopped by. We're still keeping the place going, albeit without the sharp wit of your Soupes. :p How are things going?

You just haven't been looking in the right places. At the very least, I can usually be found lurking around the SSX forums. (Link in my profile.)
Besides that, I've been staying away from message boards... After so many years having to read every thread on the PD message boards, I got pretty damn sick and tired of translating 'I'm-too-lazy-for-elementary-grammar' into English. Gamespiggin's advertising also entered the realm of absurdity, when the "Click to continue to [site name]..." links on the full-screen ads started redirecting to more full-screen ads. (Kind of odd that HLP hasn't been afflicted with those yet, actually.) The DBB had its own set of problems, in that it became too politicized. Even outside the E&C subforum, it felt like people were trying to gauge what part of the political spectrum you sat on.
I do still quietly pop in on PD's main page every once in a while, when I can weasle in through the ads. It's good to see things are being maintained and updated. That reminds me that I should probably update my profile there at some point. I've hit the drinkin' age, bought a new computer, and changed squads since the last time I updated it...
Regarding Interplay's website, I wouldn't be surprised if it did turn out to be fraudulent. Likewise, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a placeholder until something a bit less ratty could be tossed together. Time will tell.

Was thinking the exact same thing. That font needs to be banished to font-hell. :D

Hrmmm...... I could buy a company if I wanted to... :D

Good to hear you still stop by once in a while. :) I can understand some of your sentiments about PD and the DBB, although the DBB mods have been trying recently to curtail just about anything politically motivated to the E&C forum. (I can't really make excuses for the grammar of some PD members, though. :p) As for the Gamespy full-page ads, I get them every once in a while, but I'm able to successfully click through them using Firefox.
-
So, we couldn't buy the rights to fs2_open, but we could buy Interplay?
SWEET!!! :D
-
Wouldn't have to be just us either. I bet the Descent and Fallout communities at least would want those licences too.
-
...:wtf: You guys never give up. :)
-
If Interplay hasn't sold the rights to FreeSpace yet... ;)
Buying a majority of the company (over 50%) would be enough.
If we get 950 people to donate $100... :drevil:
Anyway, good to see you're still around. Inq is now working on a spacesim project based on Dark Horizons. ...and most of the old FS regulars are *still* chugging away at Blackwater Operations and Machina Terra.

The community wouldn't be here if we were quitters ;)
Thing is that if anyone attempted a buy out the share price would go up so I wasn't being 100% serious. It's worth pointing out that we aren't the only community with a vested interest in seeing Interplay bought out.

Just what did they do to get so close to bankruptcy when they release titles like the Lost Vikings, Alone in the Dark, Baldur's Gate and Descent?
