I know, that's not exactly what rocks people's boat around here but it's been so long I haven't posted anything around here, so why not:
I know, it's dark, but my fantasy universe isn't called Veil of Darkness for nothing :p
Background is an edited photo from google, the meshes and maps are by me.
-
Eep. Time to run.
-
Wow, that picuture is rediculously dark.
Cool though, but still too dark.
-
Nifty. My only complaint is that the landscape lighting doesn't match the rendered stuff's lighting, so it looks blatantly composited, and not evil being removed from its natural habitat by some brave (or foolish) adventurer.
-
Sad how that creature has better chompers than most people I see during the day.
-
cute. i want one for my birthday. i could keep it in the scorpion pit and throw people i don't like in there to play with it.
although it looks like two different pictures put one on top of the other. what anaz said about lighting, i suppose.
-
The rendering and stuff looks great, but the composition isn't too good :(
-
Awsome looks cool. :)
Any more details on why, what your doing this for? ^_^
-
Mmmh... Thought the compo was ok, but I guess it's not.
Grug: for fun. You need a reason? :p
-
Looks great,is it yelling or is about to eat the little fella?
-
I like it. A little too dark though. It makes it hard to see some of the details.
-

Yelling. Yeah, now I realize the compo is crap, the mob should seem like it's quite far away. Guess I'll give up on composition and go back to the good old "all 3D".
-
*ROAAAARRR*
"Good Muffy, now you allmost sound as fightening as you look."
Nice pic ^^
-
Very cool beastie.

I was under the impression you were making it for a story or game or whatnot.
My bad.
Still cool though. ^_^

kerayzee
Something odd about the vaseline-on-lenses focus, though.

Just ignore what I say.

What? :p

I'm surprised no one has commented on the apparent resemblence to a Doom 3 critter or three...

Never played Doom3 (save for the demo), you have a pic?
Anyway, I've drawn that beast for years, you'll find it in some of my agendas (which are more full of sketches than things to do ~~) back from 1998. It's just a big monster with 2 heads, so it can't be devastatingly original anyway. IIRC the human jaw was inspired by the xenomorph from alien, back then.

Hard to say. I think it's contrast between the 3d and the background (which is pretty hard to avoid in any sort of case); at first I thought it was blurring due to depth of field or similar, but it may just be that you've got lower detail on the foreground than background.
anyways, I got the impression the background - the trees - was sharper than the forground objects (person, monster, etc).
-
It's probably true, "visually" speaking (as opposed to "accurately" speaking) because of the background image grain.
I have two good ways to deal with most of the complains abiove, sadly, first one I don't like and second one is no good for suh a subject:
1) turn greyscale. tint is usually what screws up incrustation, no mmater how much time you spend on it, the global lighting tint will mess things up, because it is not, contrary to what it's called, global. It varies over the pic, and for the incrustation, it has to vary the same way. It is difficult to actually spot, but the general feeling itself will stand out and be clearly visible
2) add subtle noise. The background is grainy, the rendered incrustation is not. No need to say more I guess.
All in all, composition is a thing that needs more time than what I obviously want to spend on it, so I'll give up on that. (darn, an nobody even noticed the reflection of the mob in the water ~~ )
-
Looks quite Resident Evil-ish actually.
-
It looks like when Cerberus knocked up the Xenomorph Queen, and BAM! You've got yourself a Two-Headed Freak and a Paternity Suit on your hands! :p
-
It doesn't actually look like any specific Doom 3 critter, but it shares several traits with them, like the skin texture and stretchy-ness.
I used to have some links for the subject but seem to have lost them...I'll get back to you on pics.
-
Ah well, can't do much about that, it's a matter of same taste. Vyper, well, curse me, but I've never played RE either
-
Sketchyness!
I'm doing the 3d version of that one. Actually, the mesh is about done, just need to refine the hair and do the maps.
credits: I shamelessly stole the halo from that pic :p:
http://www.xavier-marquis.com/page3.php?page=1&recherche=&id=9&cat=1&titre=ILLUSTRATIONS&total=14
I thought that the idea of a man-made halo rocked, and since the design was cool enough, I even kept it, let's make this a cameo (since I love Marquis work anyway, it's only justice - I even asked the guy for advices once, and he kindly answered back, so I have respect for him too: praise him!).
-
Great sketch.:yes: I think the face is perhaps slightly "squashed" (not tall enough), but the armour is great.
-
Thanks.
A map:
I have a 3000² with natural colors version, but I'll spare you the loading (and me the uploading :p)
-
Whoa. Is this based on having higher sea levels or something? Cool.
*Idea* Perhaps you could make it look like one of those 15th-Century maps, you know, the hand-drawn ink ones? That could look really special.

Nah, but I confess I kindda followed the relief.

That's the plan, someday, when I'm less lazy :p
-
well well, I'm happy with this one ^^:
Left to do: face, hair, hands, then I'll give her her spear and a shield.
note: she's "low" poly (6488 triangles, with a unique meshsmooth on the face), and uses a single 1024*1024 map.
-
As opposed to a glowing halo, I'd make it part of the helmet. Also add in some fancy engraving there, etc.
-
Awesome work, the only thing I was thinking was that the fringe was a bit too large but if you'e happy with it then that's all that matters.

There's no helmet, and I just put the glow for fun, t's not supposed to be there ;)
-
Oh, that's supposed to be hair then... Oh well :p

Ever heard of placeholders?
-
Okay... okay... so I didn't read the fine print :p
She's still a helmet-head ;)
-
Me likes
-
Wow, that's awsome. :D ^_^
It's refreshing to see some human models for a change. :)
You can't tell me all this has no purpose but fun. Surely you have a plan or something. A map, model of person with spear.
You making a BF2 mod or something? :p
-
no :p
-
Awesome.

Something that's been bothering me about this: would a girl, especially one so formly, actually be able to wear form-fitting chainmail?
Oh, and awesome work as always Nico :)
-
It's probably got Velcro or a zip up the back. ;) Or it's magic stretchy chainmail. One of the two....
-

Don't ask :p
-
don't see why not. it's like stretch denim, normally denim's not exactly form-fitting, bit stiff even, but stretch denim moulds contours... i'm a fan because i recently bought a pair of stretch denim jeans for an amazing TEN DOLLARS, which is about eight times cheaper than usual, very exciting.
anyway back to the point. she's pretty cute, nico, nice work. seems a bit top-heavy tho, the armour i mean, looks like her back might snap if she tipped over. *shrugs* but who cares about reality when aesthetics is in play?
-
(she's... cute?)
Yeah, stretching mail sound good ^^ - and I suppose there's no need for it to be magic to stretch anyway.
As for her back... well, these guys are strong enough, don't worry.
-
update:
She's basicaly done, just need her weapons, and maybe a couple things I'll have missed out and will notice later.
edit:
http://www.cobraworld.net/nico/vod/walkingapostle2.avi
Little test animation. It's not perfect (a couple distorsions, for exemple around the belt, on the front), but it's better than I expected, correcting the skinning won't be a big deal. The robe works about fine, I'm happy with it (but the metalic parts should be rigid, I'll have to fix that).
-
Ooh, evil eyes. :D And I just noticed the wing-like shoulder pads - I like.
-
she's cute... as in not ugly and distorted? are girls not allowed to... ah... appraise girls now?
the eyes look too bright out of that shadow (which is actually quite a cool effect) and her neck's too short, or appears to be because of her armour (which is totally not a cool effect).

It's a massive bunch of iron chain links... it's absolutely nothing like stretch denim.
It wouldn't be practical. There's not enough play in chain mail for her to be able to bend in something that tight, let alone put it on. But as Nico implied, we don't need to talk about that sort of stuff. :)
-
It's rare to see a female fantasy character who isn't wearing 2 kleenexes for clothes......
Walk animation looks good to me.

On the defensive right away ~~
I just mean, cute, I don't know, maybe I'm mistaken, but I give a particular meaning, for exemple, I say cute for a kitten, but use that word for a... ah well, never mind, let me just ignore this ~~.
-
Nico uses cute like I do, to refer to children and fuzzy animals. Cute doesn't scan as a description of anything else for me.
-
Nah, I also refer to women as cute when they're... more cute than gorgeous - cuteness being a different sort of beauty than gorgeousness... How the hell am I supposed to explain that anyway? :p
-
When they have that kind of 'innocent' puppy look on them sorta. That's how I see cute in women, which can also incinuate sexy, but not always.
To me, cute is kind of "damn that's nice" in a non-sexual way. Tis hard to explain...
When all else fails... (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=cute)
-
Wow, she looks great. Really superb job
