i have the original fs2 cds, and i just finished the campaign, and the supernova killed me in the last mission, though it seems like i could possibly survive and have a different ending movie.
but unfortunately, it seems like my tech room only allows me to play up to the mission where i'm protecting the bastion from exploding, and not the very last mission that comes as a result of an incoming transmission.
After the bastion mission, it just takes me back to the ready room, without even playing the bastion cut scene. anyone know what's wrong?
-
What happens if you go back the ready room instead of the flight simulator to replay the mission? (i.e when you try to start the mission same way as when you played through the campaign).
FS2 is supposed to allow you to play the last mission as many times as you want.
The tech room won't show you the cutscenes and I can't remember what happens if you try to play a red alert mission (which is what the final one is) in the tech room. Freespace treats the two as seperate missions which is why you can't play the two back to back.
If that doesn't help just post again and I'll make you a campaign file that lets you play the two final missions again.

Enter.....the.....ready......room......again.

Yep, their right. The simulator takes you back to the tech room, because its the simulator, not the actuall campaign. So you can quickly simulate other missions.
IMO, i dont think simulateing a red alert mission should work besides going to the campaign and replaying last mission. Because you have already played the one before that, which determines your hull integ, weapons avalible, ship, ect. for the red alert mission. I dont know how it would determine what you get in a simulator, besides giveing you default.
-
It would give you default. There's nothing inherently special about red alert missions as far as starting loadout, etc. goes.
Just remember that you don't actually "finish" the last mission, as there is no debriefing and no next mission (so that it can go immediately to cutscene) the game never actually gets to the point of saving the mission's completion. So because it's the mission that comes up in the ready room, the tech room won't show it.
-
ah yes. thanks all

If you jump out at the node before the Supernova happens, the mission ends and you will only be able to replay it in the Tech Room.
-
I don't think that's true.
-
Offhand I don't know, but I suspect you'll get the standard "traitor" debrief message, and fail the mission. So you'd have to do it again anyway...
-
I beleive phy is right. You will be a traitor as always..

Don't you think? But I DO know. Try it. You will not get a debriefing at all, only the default !No debriefing for: sm3-10.fs2'.
-
That's cause [V] screwed up and forgot to include an AWOL debrief (There's irony for you. Even :v: made my number 1 common FREDding mistake :D ). Doesn't mean that you'd be prevented from repeating the mission.
The campaign file does lack a repeat link for the mission but that would also prevent you from being able to play the mission again whether you succeed or fail.
Anyway if it is true then a repeat link should be added to the campaign file and the new version included in the media.vp files.
-
You are able to play the mission again in the simulator if you jump out this way.
-
That much is obvious.

Command: Alpha 1, you were not supposed to retreat from that Supernova! You were supposed to destroy it, idiot...
-
Lol.
Of course, the key to victory is to order your wingmen to disable the Supernova. :p
-
Ooh, you're funny, WMC.
...can you do that? Heh.
-
Actually, if you disable a particular one of the Cains and leave it alone, the SuperNova will not be triggered.
-
Oh, yeah, I remember hearing about that. Is there any way to save the Deimos?
