Has anyone/how hard would it be to simply increase the polycount on the Hatshepsut to make it smoother? It seems like a really simple way of making it look a whole lot better.
-
Nuts to that, I'd like to see every armor segment of that thing modelled in. We have hi-poly for a reason ;)
-
Well, if someone's that enthusiastic, I certainly won't complain. :p
I'd just like to see the Hatshepsut stop looking like a big ugly mess of triangles at all but long range. It kind of takes away from the "wow" factor of flying by big ships when you see massive triangles jumping out at you everywhere. :p
-
Surprised it hasn't been done already. Plenty of potential for detail where it isn't armoured.
-
she's also one of the best capships designs of the game (at least, one of the few good designs:p)
-
Problem with just smoothing it is that it messes with the texturing - I've tried several times.

*is thinking about doing it*
gotta finish my Warhammer 40k tank first tho.....
-
God dammit. I click on the thread hoping to see a new Hatshepsut model. Buuuuuuuuuuuut no.
-
How dare ye mock us in our desire for that beautiful ship to bask in its full glory!
Thou shalt be smote with the Egyptian Vaccum Cleaner!
-
Oh noes! Seriously though, what would you rather have had? Some pictures or maybe a release, or idle speculation?
-
I have a copy on my HDD that's been in the process of manually smoothing, because as BW said, meshsmooth destroys UV mapping.
Likely not finish it, though. I've other ships in the works that are farther along.
-
Fine. I'll do it...

I'd have thought it be easier to correct the UV than manually smooth it.
-
Hey Raa, if by 'I'll do it,' you mean you'll make a high poly Hatshepsut/continue smoothing the existing one, that means the entire first mission will be fancy schmancy.
Yey
-
Hey that's true....
DO IT!
-
Err. No. I'm probablt not going to do the Hatshepsut. It needs work.
-
=( You make Ghost sad.

You are infested by the Hi-poly disease irreversibly.
The Hatshepsut's shape looks fine, it only needs some sharper textures and maybe some details here and there.
-
I find your incessant clinging to stock, quite worrying.
-
That's only an opinion, you know.

Got pics? :) Is that a mesh or an actual model you're building?
A high-poly Hatshepsut would be very cool, I agree. The non-armoured parts have potential for serious detail (based on the existing textures), and it'll look great.

Mesh. I've got the plastic kit too but haven't got any proper work surfaces to build it upon (yet). Leman Russ for those who like that sort of thing.
-
Aha. Be sure to post it when you finish it. I'd recommend the Forge World add-ons for the model - they look much better with the alternative turrets and extra bits.
I built a Russ/Chimera hybrid years ago, when I was into 40K. I sold most of my stuff but kept that because it took me a long time and looked great as a centrepiece. I loved converting the tanks - the kits are really easy to modify.
-
I need more money to get more into the 40k stuff. I'd love to customize it, but can't bring myself to take an exacto to the little dudes with how much they cost x_x
-
I gave up on the models, and now I just play BFG with counters and plead poorness. They're just too expensive, t'aint worth it.
-
Collecting a decent sized force for gaming is a horrendously expensive task, I agree. I gave up on the whole gaming thing years ago, though I've recently dug out some of my old unpainted models, to paint 'em for fun. I might get a tank or two - those were always my favourite - and do some more conversions. That was always my favourite bit - getting a kit, and chopping it up/ putting it together differently to see what I could come up with. I'll see if I can get some pics of the stuff I've got left...
But anyway, someone attend to the Hoover! It's too good a design to be left alone...
