First try at weapons renders. Any opinions on how to improve the image (other than the eve's window textures) would be seriously appreciated :)

Nice sound effects. ;)
Hmm, well see how many guns you can get to fire at once! >D
-
Yes, given the *behemoth* firepower visibly capable on the ship, one would think it could make a bigger sound...loud enough perhaps to actually be audible in Space :p
-
Particles around the beam. More natural glow.

before we can do that, you have to tell us what method you used to make the beam in first place, otherwise we have nothing to go on.

hmm...perhaps a wireframe picture might be best able to describe it.

It's basically a cylinder stretched out horizontally (yeah, as strange as it sounds, there is no other properly axised parts available that is capable of stretching in the right direction) in the form of a ribbon of sorts, with the missiletrail map put on it in both the transperancy as well as the glow slots. It doesn't have an 'actual' textured applied to it, due to the mapping and the disproportionate shape. I'm hoping to import something along the right axis a bit later, but have little actual hope in doing so.

needs blurring around the beam "edge" it looks far too crisp to be a shaft of energy.
you got the core of it right, just the outside of it needs work.
also, lighting, lighting, lighting.. you need to add some of that glow to the other ships, since the beam would count as a primary, or secondary lightsource, depending on if there's a star "behind the camera" as it were.
-
Yeah, some blur around the beam would help a bit. Try to add some other colours to the plates. "Windows" looks a little bit strange (were it eve's window textures? :) ) could you make them more orginized?
Nice picture btw ;)
-
hmmm.....blur around the beam eh?
Hmm.......
*off to the photoshop-mobile!
-
Uh-oh. I think he's gonna blur the edges of the beam in photoshop. Class, can anyone tell me why he shouldn't do that?
-
relax, im just going to edit the beam texture and re-render, nothing else :p
-
:wtf: Beam is a texture? :eek2: Yeah, you mentioned something about cylinder... Where are you doing that?
-
Singh, if you can park a nice good quality PNG file in my PM box for me (sans beam) that'd be nice, i can do heaps with that :)

Of what? The Render? I'll see if it can be done by tonight.
It may be slightly different from what you see here though, as I've been working on some of the ship's textures (finding appropriately large sized 'lighted' textures is a pain, to say the least) and stuff, trying to improve it as much as possible :/

no biggie, i'll have a play around with it when you get it, make sure you use a high-res PNG format (Png-24) just so i don't have a grainy Jpeg to work with.. my connection can handle it.

12 DPI?... lordy..that's like...oh wait.. foxfire wieghs in at 72 Dpi.. :p

Muhahahah! :p
72dpi is standard for monitor only work. ^_^
Thus 12dpi would irritate you with grainy-ness. *Presumedly*
