Some of you may remember my 'GTt/GS Trogen', some time ago? Well, It just had a bit of - okay, a major - Facelift.
Still some work to be doen round where the engines join the hull, but it's looking good poly-wise (currently made of overlapping and some mirrored sections, not unioned together, without trianglation - 3144 polys)

Now, If someone could take the time to explain (in simple language) how to get Bob's subobject rotation code to work with docking, then this is how the craft would look while docked:

[color=66ff00]That's one pretty piece of space-faring hardware. The main hull is somewhat ST Defiant-ish.
You should just lvlshot the pics.

I like it, but I don't quite take a fancy to that protrusion of a cockpit. It's...a lil...blech. But I dunno, it's not that bad, so you could probably get away with it. Nice
-
look alot better without the super-stretched nose
-
Cockpit/nose is overstretched, and the wings are a tad too simple for my taste. Otherwise....
-
Yeah, the cockpit's a bit too stretched, it looks like it's just begging for the ship to run into something and instantly kill the pilot. :p
-
Add some more dtail connnecting the cockpit and the main hull, then it will probably look better.
Also add some thickness and detail to the wings.

W/o it it'd look like a defiant. A defiant looks like ****, therefore I must disagree :p
I'd have questioned the usefulness of the wings and fins, then my eyes skipped over the perseus... Well, it's FSish, so...
-
Defiant doesn't have wings and isn't painted a baby blue. :p
-
*insert immature comment about name*
Very nice looking, I personally am a big fan of low-side profile ships, and this thing would look very cool in a squadron.
And GTt/GS ?
-
Looks like a Millenium Falcon/Defiant/That ship from Indepandance War hybrid..
Nice... I would ditch the wongs completely..
-
Yeah. Its the Defiant meets a PATCOM.
It is, however, a proper size for a corvette. Freespace needs corvette class ships. Of course, Freespace needs proper naval ship designations. Destroyers acting as carriers? Please.
-
well, it has logical name convention, cruisers being something that actually, hem, cruise around... you know, like small things that sound fast, not like... hem, never mind.
-
Somehow destroyer is a much better name for something big with huge weapons. Also, don`t forget SW Star Destroyers
As for the ship, it`s nice, but the wings are too thin.
-
Yeah, Star Wars has the same "backwards" naming convention.
-
Feh. Battleships and Carriers are the big beasts. Corvettes are little ones. Destroyers are up there above cruisers. Destroyers are escort craft for carriers and act as a screen against smaller, more manueverable craft.
Anything else is abomination.

So why does it have to be like the present? BTW, the name destroyer doesn`t fit something like the Fenris or today`s destroyers. They destroy small ships, oh wow.
-
Eh? Cruisers are bigger than destroyers. But yeah, FS naming is completely ass-backwards for the most part.
On-topic, I like most of the ship, but that spiky nose doesn't fit with the round, curvy shape of the rest of it.
-
In our universe, yes. in FS universe, no.
lol, when i first saw the thread name i thought "why would he post a trojan horse problem in General freespace?"
that looks hella cool, dude. keep it up!
[EDIT] Yeah, it looks like a Defiant/PatCom fusion.

BTW. Has anyone made PATCOM or Dreagnought corvett for FS? Those ships are just damn good looking...
-
Someone was making the EoC tachyon patcom a while back IIRC

I was talking about in reality. ;)

Re-al-ity? What's that? Can I eat it?

If you follow Western WW2 convections, a Frigate was originally conceived as a Super Corvette.

Was intended as a Falcon/Defiant cross breed, so about right (I don't know much/anything about IDW)
Also, the wings are there because this ship is atmospheric capable.
Currently, we have the GTT Icarus (at least till I think or better name, 'Star Rider' is possible). The (3 decked) Lear Jet of FS travel (can carry cargo and/or passengers (hence all those windows)):
I'll see about rounding off the nose (and shortening it a little, whole crafts at a nice length ATM). Reluctant to edit wings much (had huge amounts of trouble getting them right first time).
And since I'm feeling nice, here's a sneak-peek at the GTGs Trogen, the military spec gunship:
NOTE: Picture is now out-of-date
It gets it's name since the crews sometimes broadcast a 'fake' ID code, telling hostiles that the 'Trogen' is acutally a standard 'Icarus' transport. The pilots can't tell the differance until their close enough... by which point it's too late...
I'm considering adding four tiny turrets, each mounting a single Subach HL-7, above and below the docking port on the Trogen (would have pic, but program locked up as I was trying to save it to floppy:hopping: ).
Oh, and how does one lvlshot?
[EDIT]'lvlshot'ed. Thanks;)
-
You use the [ lvlshot][ /lvlshot] tags.
If you care about that sort of naming thing, I made an Icarus a long time ago (and it's in TVWP) as a science ship (the first jump-capable ship according to my fluff). And I believe it's spelled "Trojan" (google agrees with me).
-
[color=66ff00]Anaz beat me to it.
Personally I think that your design is pretty excellent, I'd be wary of the big windows in the passenger version as it makes the ship look a bit too flimsy.
Your call though.

I see your point. It's really only the top deck windows that count though, and the FS equialent of 'Ten Forward'!;)
I might remove a few from the upper deck...
And your proberly right about the spelling Anaz.
-
Nuts...I was expecting to see a real Trojan Horse in-game. :p That model's very nice, though. :)
-
o/" Trojan Man! o/"
Anywho, it's too round for my liking. Perhaps proper textures will change my opinion, though.
-
 Silly Greeks and their condoms.
Anyway, in those recent shots, the ship looks really good overall, so the nose can stay just as it is. Quite a pretty ship you've got there.
-
I said I had a pic of those mini-turrets, and here it is:
And here is the latest version, with nearly all sections combined (and the 'baby blue' removed:D):
I've rounded the nose off, shortened it a little, and removed a few of the upper deck windows. The wings are also marginly thicker at the pivot point.
I've knocked up an 'Alpha' Pof, for testing of the ships tbl entry (and it's custom weapons). It works, but I need to really bug the SCPers about turrets (again:sigh: ). Are they ever going to fix the turret code?
If people want it, I can release the Alpha version for play-testing.
-
That looks much better. I like the nose too
-
I like it. It looks civi :D
-
Needs different, nicer textures...bad.
-
It doesn`t look like it`s textured. But the colors are ok
-
If it has any sort of coloration at all, it must be textured in some way. It's not all one color, ergo...

Ok. ok. enough condom jokes...

Putting a singlecolored texture on stg <> texturing. FS2 wouldn`t display it without a texture anyway.
But the point is that this color combination is better than the green-silver one.
-
ATT, the model has no texturing. I did add some stop gag textures for the test pof, though. Trust me, this will have custom textures when completed;)
@ Raa: :wtf: Not sure I want to know where your coming from...
Its meant to be a single HL-7 in the smallest turret possible...
I have to admit I haven't done anything to this project this week,as I've been at work for the past 3 days...
I'll put up an alpha release tomorrow, for those intrested.
-
As for me I love those guns!!! Any chance of allow the use of them?
Also the engine assemble is nice (the side ones). Not a fan of the hybrid look, but it WAS well done.
-
Okay, guess the ALPHA release will have to wait...
To tide you over, here's a ingame shot of the ALPHA model.
NOTE: THE TEXTURES ARE PLACEHOLDERS ONLY.

I'm surprised no-one has commented on the Military spec ship's semi-unquie feature (hint: look under the bow;7)
-
Shaping up quite nicely actually. Can't wait for the final release as I have a mission on the drawing board for it already:D

just remember, in this ship, you WANT your opponents BEHIND you!
