Stargate's new seasons are about to start, and they've shown some sneak previews on TV yesterday, apparently. Here are a few shots of Earth's new battlecruiser, the Daedalus. For those thinking it would be just another BC 303, think again. Images courtesy of Gateworld.

Stargate starts again this Friday, no?
Can't wait :D
-
I always found it strange how they could manage to build a ship of that size in complete secrecy.
EDIT: (on earth)
-
Space is rather large.
-
...and so are the underground bunkers at Area 51 ;)
-
They built that thing on EARTH?! There's something wrong with that....
-
Thats the only thing they could do I guess because I don't beleive any forward bases such as the alpha site or whatever has the manpower or machinery to do that.
-
I'm not sure about Daedalus, but Prometheus was. You see it being launched from A51 in a couple of eps, notably 6x11.

It would make more sense to move the machinery off-world as that's where most of the materials come from (the logistics of bringing tonnes and tonnes of Trinium in through the stargate would be a nightmare) but it's TV, it's allowed to not make sense :P
-
No no, what I'm getting at is that it makes absolutely no sense to build something like that on a planetary surface and then launch it. It requires either an astronomical amount of fuel, or a totally ridiculous miracle technology provided by the writers. (I don't know Stargate so maybe I'm missing something.)
-
It has some anti-gravity system or something I believe. Again, it's TV - they can do whatever the hell they want.
-
The design itself is somewhat....meh
-
It's completely nuts, but still cool.
-
It looks small...
-
looks better than the promethius, tho.. its overall layout always irked me, the bridge is still exposed(as with the prommy), not as much in comparison, however. also, curious that it's off-center, too.
the real question being is how much firepower does that thing have?
-
They need beam cannons :D

Enough to at least chase off those hive ships from the Finale.

Prometheus is all reverse engineered alien technology. Mostly Goa'uld stuff and later some Asgard stuff. The Goa'uld never really had trouble with those big pyramid ships flying through atmsophere so when I saw the Prometheus I just figured that they had reverse engineered to that level (plus some help) and put it all together.
I figured the Daedalus would be just like the Prometheus but apparently not. Cool!
I still haven't even seen Atlantis Season 1 yet...so it'll be a while I think. Boo!

Dang it! Curse Channel 7 for missing out Episodes of SG-1 and stopping Atlantis for a few weeks! Thank heavans it's (Atlantis) on tonight!

Oh man, at last someone who feels my pain. I've been an ongoing love-hate relationship with channel 7 over the past eight years, depending completely on whether they're screening Stargate or not. :D
-
I hear channel 7 has this pair of really bizarre announcers.
I get my episodes direct from SciFi :D a month after everyone else :(

That's what I did too, ordered seasons 1-6 at same time. Still waiting for season 7 box price to drop, which most likely happens when season 8 is in stores.
Stargate nor Atlantis currently airs in Finland, I think SG was dropped somewhere season 5.

Very true, channel 7 has perpetually and consistantly ignored the Geek demographic (much like pretty much every other Australian Network save ABC...and Ten for about 2 weeks with BSG) and of course, thanks to 7's missing that episode where the Prometheus gets nicked (the one in series 8 i think), and thanks to my can't-be-half-arsed-to-download-it...-ness...i'm not going to know what the hell is going on if and/or when Season 9 starts :ick:

...yeeeees, but it's Tassie...who cares...?
...KIDDING!!! :p
-
Ahh, that episode isn't really a bit plot point. It's just Daniel and whats-her-faces from Farscape having a little anthropological fun with eachother... Purely in the name of science, saving humanity, and defeating the goau'uld of course...
-
Hang on a sec. They show the series but miss episodes out? Why?
-
Well, at the time, Channel 7 wasn't showing Atlantis, and from what i've heard from a friend of mine who has actually downloaded the episode, it deals heavily with what's going on in Atlantis, (which is supposed to be parrallel to Season 8, but 7 is capitalizing on it by showing them seperately, so while Atlantis is on, SG-1 isn't, and so forth...) and so, the network just *skipped over* the damn Episode...

One of the episodes (3rd or so of the 7th series, I think; the one with the Jaffa prison camp) shows a Goa'uld mothership being assembled within a zero-gravity dock in the atmosphere of a prison planet. Explicitly says 'zero gravity dock', I think.

Because they are dumb!! No, seriously, the channel that screens Stargate will often put on other stuff (e.g. special sports events or mini-series dramas) and Stargate will get the boot for a few weeks as a result - then they'll return with episodes that have either missed the in-between bits or have timewarped and gone backwards. It's very confusing. The last few weeks, IIRC, Atlantis was put on hold for - of all things - a reality TV show that put Paris Hilton on a farm and filmed her responses to the new life... :eek2:

further incentive to get digital television.. let's face it, the local networks, hell the NATIONAL networks here deserve to be shot.
-
I honestly can't think of a more worthless show than TSL looks to be. The only reason I can think of to watch it is to see how PH uses her boobs to manipulate people. :wtf:

Paris Hilton on a farm. Reality TV. Bumping Atlantis.

I'm still waiting for the announcement of Paris Hilton on animal farm.
And I don't mean the George Orwell one.

Aunty always has the best stuff - though they scab most of it off the BBC. Glasshouse owns though.

How come the Auzzies took over the thread? Northerners, UNITE!!

STARGATE
so I here that SG1 basicly ran out of good ideas and is going to introduce a new ubber badguy again, the show is starting to suffer from DBZ syndrome. now there getting some sort of evil anchent things angry at them and the gould are going to be sidelined.
it'll be nice to see some more SG references in atlantis
-
[color=66ff00]I thought that most of season eight was smashing, it just seemed to go from strength to strength.
The problem is that Earth is almost a bloody fortress now but that is a good thing IMHO; too many 'save Earth' episodes. It should force them to come up with clever ways to keep the sense of urgency. The only thing I see as a definite dodgy area is the lack of the funny-serious O'Neill-Teal'c dynamic which has been a constant source of some of the best humour.
I still think Ben Browder can do the show justice, it's hard to tell with Beau Bridges though, I haven't seen him in anything since Jerry Maguire.

I'm guessing that it's tied in with the Stargate game since I've heard that it also has some evil ancient race.
You know that there can be only oh-so-many ancient evil sleeping races in any one galaxy...
-
Well on an the episode where O'neill first meets the asgaurd they speak of the alliance between three races and one of them hadn't appeared in the series yet so I'm guessing they'll use em this time around, and in the game hence the name 'Stargate: The Alliance'
-
Yes, the Ewoks.
Er, Furlings.
-
LoL. Aussies Rule! :D
1. *Sobs miserably over channel 7's ineptitude.* :(
2. *Feels slightly better because Tazzy's got it worse.* :p
3. Yes, the Glasshouse does rock. :D
4. The stargate game (if you read the site) concerns Anubis, and is based in past Stargate episodes. ;)
5. It's best to have a SG psycho friend who owns all the available SG dvd's. ^_^
T'ealc rocks! ^_^
