Title: Even in death i still serve
Post by: Rott3 on July 13, 2005, 03:56:41 pm
I present thee - Bob The Dreadnaught (No offence, Bob). It's my first model of these proportions. By that i mean it has more than 500 polys. It has about 15000 and it hasn't seen optimisation since 259 BC. It is my take on the Dreadnaught, so if you are a fan of the original one, tough luck. I know it could be tuned and scaled and other crap done to it, but it is nearly midnight, and im going to sleep.

So check these - Bob I (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob_01.jpg) Bob II (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob_02.jpg)

(For some strange and compelling reason the skull looks like Spider-Mans face. :wtf: )

Cool. The legs seem a tad bit skinny though.

The legs do look skinny, and also kinda short, even for a Dreadnaught.

Bob's cute! :D

Kickass.

Now, THAT is the very essence if kick-assedness.

However, I have to ask - how does it walk? Doesnt seem to have many knees, suggesting that it goes around like what? A duck or a booby (first person to laugh DIES!)?

Good morning HLP family!!!!

Yes i know the legs are skinny, but i'm already fixing it.
As for walking, i guess you would say 'duckystyle'

New legs - Bob III (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob_03.jpg) Bob IV (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob_04.jpg)
Yay or nay?

Thicker!

And Nico, go play dawn of war, they walk kind of duck-ish.

Post by: Nico on July 14, 2005, 01:10:18 pm
Nico knows well how dreadnaught walk (and how they don't like railguns :p). Singh's the one who asked ;)
They walk like that:
http://www.exile-films.com/media/dread_720_sorenson.mov
Well, that's an ork dread, but imperial ones walk the same way, just less rock&roll :p

about the mesh, the legs/body joint is too short and the legs too thin, and the coffin is too wide:

Killa Kans own. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHH!!!!

Damn you Google Image Search! Damn you to hell! I can never-ever find reference pics that are worth more than a used piece of toilet paper. Blah.

But now i present thee the third (and hopefully final) batch of renders -
Bob V (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob_05.jpg) Bob VI (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob_06.jpg)
Bob VII (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob_07.jpg)

And now, ass i did yesterday, i'm going to sleep. But stay tuned, for tomorrow we shall try something so dumb, that even An0n wouldn't dare to do it - let Bob loose in the FS2 universe (that is if i can get it to convert). So join us again, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel.

Dammit. I thought I would get to be the one to suggest that (seeing as how I'm the first one to reply :p)

Oh well, I guess I can tell you to use Bobb's animation system to make it walk. :p

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/SPACE_MARINE_DREADNOUGHTS.html

There, you shall find many references on dreadnaughts there. They'll have new arms or stuff, but they're still basicaly dreadnaughts, check, maily, the alternative weapons and the "more pictures are available here" links, you'll have lots of shots at different angles. Alternatively, you can use the real model as a refernce ;)

Now, if i had those pics before, i could of made it better, but i am lazy as hell so i probably won't change it much.

Now for animations, how do i use Bobb's animation code?

[color=66ff00]You could buy one of those laser-cutty-3D fabrication units and crank out your own RL™ models.

They cost a couple of grand but that's the same price as what? 6 games workshop space marines and some paint.

LMAO!

Too true!

Everyone who buys something from the store just gets done up the arse by GW everytime the cash register goes "cha-ching!".

CURSES!! I can't get it to convert. That could be because i have never converted a thing to FS2 before (don't hit me) so i'm probably doing something wrong. I'm using Max7+POF export plugin. Do i need to do everything told in the readme? Once i managed to export it without crashes, but then Modelview said - Too huge submodel, too many points defined. Is: 16048, Should be <=8000 What do i have to do?  I need a step-by-step guide to everything.

Discard my CURSES!! post.

Check this - OMG (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob/screen0000.jpg) WTF (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob/screen0001.jpg) LOL (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob/screen0002.jpg) RTFM (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob/screen0003.jpg) STFU (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob/screen0004.jpg) ROLFMAO (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/bob/screen0006.jpg)

For some reason the texturing is all screwy. In MAX it was a pretty tiled crap, but here it is a blurry piece of ****.

Well, thats the problem - it is unwrapped. It uses the tiled capital07 texture, which is in the material editor tiled 40 times. Sure, it looks ugly, but doesn't come close to the uglyness in FS2.

Bob would win. Although it needs to be scaled bigger to meet the other dudes sizes, Bob would still Assaultcannon their strangely constructed asses off. I guess. Maybe it wouldn't. Hell, it doesn't even fire anything now.

My Crisis and Broadsides (especially my Broadsides :p) exoarmors assure you they suck :p

btw, now that 80% is plastic, GW stuff is way cheaper than it used to be, and to be honest, I have a few armies, but still I've spent much less in them than in my PC or videogames, and they last much more, so make me gay, since I like being done up the ass by GW, at least more than by "generic editor" :p

You son of a Michael Jackson *shiver* Curse you and other people who can buy 40k stuff from the store. I can't buy any GW stuff from any other places than The Net. Although i haven't looked very much. Actually i haven't looked at all.

Damn you and your Crisis and Broadsides exoarmors to the toilet.

Tau uber alles!

I still want that FPS game...

Firewarrior? It's not bad, but it's not good either. I never managed to complete the last level ~~

That being said, tau ubber all save for space marines (it's pretty tough, 50/50, unless they're stupid enough to waste points on dreadnaugts -:p-, predators and land raiders, instead of bringing more space marines -damn I hate these 3+ saves ~~) and necrons (necrons totally own the tau ~~).
Title: Even in death i still serve
Post by: NGTM-1R on July 16, 2005, 07:29:53 pm
Necrons own almost everything, in my experience, so the Tau are in good company.

Bah. You people and your 40k discussion in which i can't participate. :ick:

Alas!! Bob has escaped from my computer and is coming to invade yours (that is, if you decide to download him. If you don't, Bob will be very pissed) :nervous: (http://www.zone.ee/solk666/Bob.rar) Run for your LIVES!!

I don't care what you do to him (don't rape him to death, though) but gimme some respect, homies :thepimp: Credit me
